The weather continues to disrupt the jumps race programme at present with both Exeter and Sedgefield abandoned today and Wetherby already called off for Saturday.  We were due to have three runners at Exeter and they did call a 7.30am Friday morning inspection originally but actually called it off before lunch time yesterday.  We were very wet in the west country yesterday and the course was waterlogged with no chance of significant improvement before racing. That sadly leaves us will no runners today and just the one jumps meeting at Sandown.

There was due to be jumps racing at Market Rasen and Wincanton today, unfortunately Wincanton hasn't been able to beat the weather and has been abandoned due to waterlogging on the track, while Market Rasen goes ahead - We were due to have one runner at the latter meeting, Moodofthemoment.

Today we have the one runner on the flat, Ocean Heights at Kempton this evening.  He steps up in distance having run well at the track on his first start in a handicap last time at a big price, finishing third.  I think he will appreciate the extra couple of furlongs today and I don’t see why he won’t run well again.  Tyler Heard rides for the first time claiming a handy three pounds.  Our jockey has not long returned from riding in the States where he has ridden 23 winner this year from 175 rides, riding quite a bit at Keeneland and Horseshoe Indianapolis amongst others.  Now back in Britain and based with trainer Phil McEntee he is looking to get back going again over here.  Originally based with Richard Hannon he has had 78 career winners and hopefully he can add to that tally this evening.  He has four rides on a bumper nine race card at Kempton and I am sure he will do a good job aboard Ocean Heights in the lucky last.

There are no runners from the stable today, but to be honest, there is unlikely to be any jump racing once again today. Southwell was the only intended jumps meeting, but they needed a dry night for racing to go ahead. They lost their additional all-weather jumpers bumper card on Sunday and the snow has now melted but rain on top of this has caused them problems.

It's a wet start this morning!

Racing at Plumpton today is abandoned due to a waterlogged track, - which means no racing for us today!  Unfortunately for us, Leicester was also called off yesterday after the track received snow on Saturday night. We were due to have one runner there, Sizing Pottsie who I hoped had a good chance, but he has to wait for another day. Racing went ahead at Carlisle after two inspections, but there were a lot of non-runners.  A lot of these were due to travel disruption with snow preventing some horses getting to the track. It was a bit sad to see a couple of two horse races, but sometimes these things cannot be helped. The meeting at Southwell yesterday was also lost due to snow and difficulty in people accessing the course . The meeting was put on as an extra jumpers bumpers card with the anticipation of abandoning meetings, but funnily enough, it was lost to the elements itself!  Flat action returns after a week off with a meeting at Wolverhampton, there is no racing in Ireland today.

  Mr Tambourine Man
  had his own opinion
  on the cold!

It was great but I was surprised that racing went ahead at both Newbury and Bangor over jumps yesterday!  It was the coldest morning so far at Pond House yesterday and my car read -6c when I came to work.  There were a few frozen water drinkers so buckets were deployed and Mike and Bob were on the gallops tractors from early in the morning to ensure the normal work routine took place so it was a good effort from the team of staff to get everything done yesterday morning.

       Remastered runs at Newbury today

The weather caused trouble to two of he jumps fixtures yesterday, forcing the abandonment of both Doncaster and Musselburgh.  Newbury went ahead thanks to their fleece covers and there was some good afternoon action.  Unfortunately the weather looks set to disrupt a cracking afternoon of racing with Newcastle already abandoned and Newbury, Bangor and Doncaster all inspecting this morning.
