Ocean Heights runs at Lingfield Today

Today we head to Lingfield with one runner on the flat, Ocean Heights who runs in the 2.00pm race, a 1m4f handicap and Jack Dace claiming five pounds rides.  He is returning from a little break and this is a competitive looking contest.  He is the outsider of the field and even though he is handicapped to run well I think there will be easier opportunities going forwards.  Ralph Beckett and Rossa Ryan have the favourite in the race, Likealot and they look like they could take all the beating.

American Sniper runs at Plumpton Today

We start the new week with a runner at Plumpton, American Sniper who runs in the valuable 2m4f handicap hurdle at 2.35pm and Rian Corcoran rides.  Rian rides Sniper for the first time today and his ten pound claim will be a real help this afternoon and I would like to think he has a good chance.  He has had just the one start at Cheltenham so far this season and he will have improved for this outing.  The handicapper has given him a chance and providing there is not too much rain at the track I do no think he will be too far away.  There is rain due this morning, we have had quite significant rain here at Pond House, but hopefully they are not due as much on that side of the country.  He is about 17/2 in the betting and fingers crossed for a good run.

       Activist runs at Leicester Today

It is a slightly quieter day on the racing front in Britain with just two jumps meetings today at Carlisle and Leicester and we have one runner at the latter, Activist.  He runs in the two mile handicap hurdle at Leicester at 1.25pm and Jack Tudor rides.  He was a winner over course and distance twelve months ago on good to soft going off of a eight pound lower mark.  The track is due rain before racing but he shouldn't mind that and he is having his first run since a wind operation.  It is a competitive nine runner race and life will be tough off his rating of 110 with his last winning mark being 104 but he ran well for a long way at Chepstow on his seasonal reappearance and if the wind op has helped then I hope he can continue to progress further.  He does have his critics but he has actually won four races from 15 career starts over hurdles so that is not too bad a strike rate!

         Kingston Queen will not be
         running at Newbury Today

There is another super day of racing to look forward to today but it will be a little less interesting for us than it could have been as unfortunately Kingston Queen will not be running at Newbury today.  She was an intended runner and favourite for the opening Mares novices listed hurdle on the card at 11.55am but David was not 100% happy with her last night and decided to take her out.  She is a fantastic mare who we rate too highly to take a chance with if we don't think she is 100% and so the safest option is always to wait for another day.  It looks a very competitive race on paper with some high quality mares in the line up so it will still be an informative race to watch.  The favourite now is the Jamie Snowden trained La Conquiere who finished just in front of Kingston Queen in the Aintree bumper but there are plenty of opponents who could rank amongst the top in the mares division this season so I shall watch with interest.

There are three jumps meetings today at Newbury, Doncaster and Musselburgh.  There is an all-weather flat card at Southwell and in Ireland they also race on the flat at Dundalk.  The stable does not have any runners but it looks a cracking day of racing, especially at Newbury.  Their card kicks off with a fascinating novice hurdle in which two ex Paul Nicholls trained horses are at the top of the betting.  Act of Innocence is favourite making his stable debut for Nicky Henderson while Sinnatra is second favourite making his second appearance for the Skelton team after finishing runner up on his debut for them.  There are likely to be plenty of other nice horses in this 15 runner field and so it should be an interesting watch.

Today we have three runners at three different meetings and while the lorries heading to Uttoxeter and Lingfield were well on their journey early this morning, it will be a much later start for the lorry to Taunton which is of course much closer to home.  Bashful Boy is our runner at Taunton and it is great they are back racing after losing their intended first fixture of the season as the ground was too firm.  It still will be on the quicker side of good today but it is safe and this is the type of ground that Bashful Boy loves.  He runs in the 2.50pm handicap hurdle over 2m3f and Harry Cobden rides.  This will be his first run over hurdles for over a year but he has been running well on the flat all summer, without winning but he has been contesting some tough races.  He once again ran better than the bare result suggests in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket last time and he retains all of his enthusiasm.  He carries top weight in the race today and is handicapped to go well if he enjoys his return to hurdling.  He has a good man on top and I think he can put up a bold show if he wants to!
