Today we have two runners at Warwick, Kauto Kawai and Manuelito who run in the opening contest at Warwick the 12.12pm juvenile hurdle.  Kauto Kawai is having is second start since arriving from France and Tom Bellamy rides while Marrakushi is making his hurdling debut with Jack Tudor in the saddle.  Kauto Kawai finished second on hurdling debut in France but was a little disappointing for us first time out over hurdles at Kempton last time.  He raced a little keenly and made the running that day so we have added the hood this afternoon and I imagine we will have more patient tactics and hope he is staying on towards the finish.

There are two jumps meetings today at Hereford and Plumpton but the stable does not have any runners. Both meetings have lots of runners and competitive racing but Hereford looks of particular interest for a few reasons. Gearoid Harney is in action in the first race of the day for conditional jockeys. Jack Tudor and David Noonan have a few rides each and lastly Abaya Du Mathan runs for the first time for new connections since he was sold at Doncaster sales last month. He runs in the concluding race on the card, a two mile handicap chase. He does have course form but I think he ideally prefers a slightly stiffer test if stamina but I shall watch with interest.

There are no runners for the stable today but there are two jumps meetings at Carlisle and Huntingdon.  There is racing on the all-weather at Lingfield and in Ireland they have a meeting under both codes, on the flat at the Curragh and jumping at Cork.  The feature race of the day is probably the Colin Parker Intermediate chase at Carlisle at 2.30pm.  All the horses are rated between 138 and 151 and it looks an interesting race on paper.

The good news is that racing goes ahead everywhere today and we have two runners at Ascot.  Royal Defender makes his hurdling debut in the 2.40pm novices hurdle and Jack Tudor rides.  Our five year old beat a good horse in and Irish point to point and then we ran him twice in bumpers last season.  He is a horse we have always quite liked but he was probably a bit weak last season and has grown and strengthened after a summer at grass.  He was unluckily brought down in his last bumper at Chepstow where he would have been placed, after which we decided to give him the time that he needed.  This looks quite a warm race on paper with several horses having cost a bit and everyone will be hoping their horse is a potential future star.  Our fella jumps well and while he may improve a little for the experience and he is a big price, I don't think he will be too far away at the finish.

     Paricolor runs at Newmarket Today

I do hope Storm Ciaran has passed you all by and everyone is safe and well with not too much damage.  Some of the places I see on the news in Jersey and along the South Coast look terrible and it must have been very frightening.  We had a fair bit of rain over Wednesday evening and throughout yesterday morning and even though it was windy it really wasn't too bad.  Our morning routine continued pretty much as normal but well done to our team of staff on doing a great job in not the nicest conditions.  I was okay in the office but did have a leaking sky light so the elements did affect me a little!

                     Stormy Skies

It was a rough night for me last night both in weather and footballing terms! Manchester United were terrible in the football and lost 3-0 at home to Newcastle in the Cup, Arsenal are also out however so that made be feel a little bit better!  With regards to Storm Ciaran, watching the news it looks terrible in Jersey and along the coast but thankfully we have not been affected that badly.  We did have strong winds through the night and a lot of rain, 30mm was recorded but at daybreak things had calmed down a fair bit.  I think there is a bit more to come later but for now our normal morning routine can continue as per usual.

With a mixture of sunshine and showers today we are bracing ourselves for some more wet and windy weather from tomorrow onwards. It is frustrating to loose meetings as races are hard enough to find for some horses and with Bangors card being abandoned there is just on jump meeting today at Chepstow where we have two runners. Favori De Sivola and Itseemslikeit.
