First Lord Du Cuet runs at Cheltenham Today

Today we have two runners at Cheltenham, Tough Approach and First Lord Du Cuet.  Tough Approach runs in the opening race of the day, the maiden hurdle over 2 miles at 1.10pm and Jack Tudor rides.  Our four year old ran nicely on rules and stable debut in a bumper at Newton Abbot last month, staying on nicely to be third.  This track will suit better and he will appreciate any rain that falls.  He was runner up on his only start in an Irish point to point and jumps nicely at home and shows a good attitude.  This looks a tough race but he should be doing all his best work late on up the hill and we will learn a lot more about him this afternoon.

American Sniper - Winner at Cheltenham

It was brilliant to have a winner at Cheltenham yesterday with American Sniper winning the opening race of the day, the conditional jockeys handicap hurdle.  He travelled like a dream for Fergus Gillard throughout the race and came through to lead after the second last hurdle.  As we know, it is a long way up that Cheltenham hill however so it is always a slight worry but he pinged the last and powered up the hill to hold off the challenger, White Rhino.  There were emotional scenes in the winners enclosure as it meant a lot to the yard and his owners, a group of local lads, who it is fair to say had not had a lot of luck with horses up until this point – what a way to change your luck!

American Sniper Runs at Cheltenham Today

Today we have the first day of Cheltenham’s November meeting, Countryside Day and we have two runners, American Sniper and Paricolor.  Both horses run in the opening race, a conditional jockeys handicap hurdle over 2m5f.  It is nice to have Fergus Gillard back riding for us and he rides American Sniper while Gearoid Harney claims his very handy eight pounds on Paricolor who sneaked into the race on bottom weight.

Lock Out Runs at Taunton Today

Racing action returns to our local course, Taunton this afternoon, which hosts its first meeting since the spring and the stable has six runners.  Platinumcard, Mollie De Mai, Kingofthewest, Dindin, Lock Out and Heure De Gloire are all in action this afternoon in race which have plenty of runner across the card.  The course is renowned for being drier than many and despite plenty of rain the going is set to be good to soft although it looks to be a fairly damp day ahead so don’t forget to take your umbrellas if you are going!

Unfortunately there is no jumps meetings today with both Ayr and Bangor having already been abandoned.  We were due to have two runners at Bangor, Bumpy Johnson and Eden Du Houx but they will be instead be doing their usual home routine this morning!  There are two flat meetings on the all-weather at Kempton and Newcastle to keep us entertained and in Ireland they race at Dundalk.  Fingers crossed there should be no problems for Taunton tomorrow where we have six runners at our local track.  It is the best morning of the week so far weather-wise, but the rain is set to return this evening I am told!

Today there are two jumps meetings at Huntingdon and Lingfield but the stable does not have any runners.  There are also two meetings on the all-weather at Newcastle and Wolverhampton.  There was due to be jumps racing in Ireland over jumps at Fairyhouse but that has been abandoned and the weather continues to play its part with Bangor already abandoned for tomorrow.  We did have Bumpy Johnson and Eden Du Houx declared to run there but that was called off after an inspection yesterday afternoon.

             Happy Birthday Debbie!

Today there was supposed to be three jumps meetings at Kempton, Fakenham and Carlisle but unfortunately Carlisle has been abandoned.  The stable does not have any runners today. Our conditional jockey Gearoid Harney was due to make the long drive to Carlisle for one ride, Inspiratrice for trainer Nicky Martin in the 1.40pm mares handicap hurdle and is about 5/1 third best in the betting.  He was on his way when the meeting was called off but has already turned around and will be back in the yard to ride out a bit later in the morning.
