Bumpy Johnson Runs at Exeter Today

It is a busy day for the stable with five runners at Exeter today and three at Uttoxeter.  The lorry had an early start to Uttoxeter this morning with Tough Approach running in the opening race of the day at 11.55am.  This is a maiden hurdle over 2m4f and Nick Scholfield rides.  He made a pleasing stable debut in a bumper at Newton Abbot and stayed on well to finish third.  He will appreciate the step up in trip today as stamina is his forte and he will handle the track and ground.  There are only six runners and I would like to think he won’t be too far away.

Sidi Ismael runs at Haydock Today

Today we have just the one runner at Haydock, Sidi Ismael.  He runs in the concluding race on their card, the 3.35pm staying handicap chase with Jack Tudor riding.  This is his seasonal reappearance and he does have a good record fresh but he returns to action carrying top weight off a mark of 135 in a competitive looking race so it will be tough.   He is about 10/1 in the betting and he is in good form at home so I wouldn’t put anyone off backing him each way.  He won’t mind the ground and stamina is his forte having finished runner up on his last two starts of last term over 3m4f.  All being well he heads to the Becher Chase over the Grand National fences next month after this.

          Jilaijone Runs at Ascot Today

Today we have three runners at two meetings, Ascot and Chepstow.  Neon Moon and Jilaijone are our two runners at Ascot while Ben Lilly heads across the Severn Bridge to Chepstow.  Neon Moon runs in the 2.00pm handicap chase over 2m5f and Jack Tudor rides.  He was impressive on seasonal reappearance at Ludlow and didn’t run too badly at Newbury last time when 2m7f probably just stretches his stamina and he finished fourth.  There are nine runners this afternoon and the race looks competitive.  We are about 10/1 in the betting but we know he likes course and distance having finished second here last year and he will appreciate the dying ground.  I think he has a solid each way chance.

Itseemslikeit & Royal Mer Ffos Las Winners

It was fantastic to get a nice double at Ffos Las yesterday thanks to Itseemslikeit and Royal Mer.  The other horses all ran well as well so it was a good day all round!  Itseemlikeit is a giant of a horse who is still a bit green and babyish but he is very athletic and has a super attitude.  He led the field, jumped well and responded well when asked for more as the favourite came to challenge to win going away.  He relished the step up to 2m4f and it was a lovely performance from an exciting four year old.  I imagine we will give him time and keep in low key for the foreseeable as he really is one to look forward to for the future.

Keppage Makes his Chasing Debut at Ffos Las

It is a busy afternoon for the stable with six runners at Ffos Las.  Our line-up includes Chauffeur Driven, Itseemslikeit, Duc De Beauchene, Kepagge, Royal Mer and Phanttomofthepoints.  Chauffeur Driven runs in the 12.35pm maiden hurdle over two miles and Jack Tudor rides.  Our four year old won an Irish point to point and ran okay on stable debut in a bumper at Ascot last time.  There are only seven runners in this but it looks fairly competitive with us third in the betting at 9/2.  While he may appreciate further in time, he will handle the track and ground and jumps well at home.

         King Turgeon Winner at Exeter

King Turgeon once again jumped fantastically and got a deserved victory over fences at Exeter yesterday.  He ran a promising race on seasonal debut last time at Chepstow and backed that up with another super performance off a four pound higher mark. Gearoid Harney kept things simple, racing close to the pace and jumping well before asking our gelding for more from the fourth last. He responded in spades and further good jumping up the straight helped him to pull away from his rivals. He was always just doing enough on the run and it was a great victory for his owners, Somerset racing.
