Today we have two runners at Warwick, Kauto Kawai and Manuelito who run in the opening contest at Warwick the 12.12pm juvenile hurdle. Kauto Kawai is having is second start since arriving from France and Tom Bellamy rides while Marrakushi is making his hurdling debut with Jack Tudor in the saddle. Kauto Kawai finished second on hurdling debut in France but was a little disappointing for us first time out over hurdles at Kempton last time. He raced a little keenly and made the running that day so we have added the hood this afternoon and I imagine we will have more patient tactics and hope he is staying on towards the finish.
Marrakushi has just had the one start to date in a 1m5f bumper at Exeter and showed up well for a long time before getting a little tired. He will have learnt a lot from that experience and has schooled well at home so we will see how he gets on this afternoon.
Warwick is the only jumps action today but it is a bumper eight race card with plenty of runners. There are three meetings on the all-weather at Chelmsford, Lingfield and Newcastle and in Ireland they race over jumps at Fairyhouse.
In yesterday’s action there was a great front running ride by Gearoid Harney aboard Masterdreamer to win at Hereford so very well done to him.
Some relatively big news in the racing world yesterday was that Henrietta Knight is set to resume her training career, 11 years after giving up her licence to care for her husband Terry Biddlecombe. ‘Hen’ has reapplied for her licence, just a few days short of her 77th birthday and aims to have about 30 horses in training at her West Lockinge base. She has trained over 700 winners and was best known for her association with three time Gold Cup winner Best Mate and other top horses such as Edredon Bleu, Calgary Bay and Racing Demon. She says some people are calling her ‘mad’ she feels fit and healthy and would like to give it a go so very best of luck to her!
Last night the football match was enthralling as a neutral! Chelsea ran out 4-1 winners in the end but that doesn't tell half the story! Spurs were the only unbeaten side left in the league this season but that has now gone although they put up a spirited performance with only nine players for much of the second half. Spurs took the lead early but then the chaos ensued - five disallowed goals, two red cards and two horrible injuries for Spurs, nine other VAR incidents made for an entertaining match and many minutes of extra time! I don't think Spurs supporter Ashley Farrant can be too disappointed with his side and David as a Chelsea fan can count his team a little lucky!
Champions League football returns this evening. Manchester City are at home to Young Boys while Newcastle have a touch match away to Borussia Dortmund but are in great form themselves having won their last two matches against Manchester United and Arsenal.
Did you know that 10 + 10 and 11 + 11 are the same thing? Because 10 + 10 is twenty and 11 + 11 is twenty too! Have a good day!
