There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps action from Newbury, Leicester, Catterick and an all-weather flat card from Lingfield.  David has two runners today; Ghost Serge and Delface who both run at Leicester.  Ghost Serge runs in the 1m7½f handicap hurdle and has shown plenty of talent on the flat and over timber but refused to race at Lingfield earlier in the month.  He will handle the heavy ground and has the ability to be involved provided he jumps off - Tom Scudamore is charged with the job of making sure that he does.  Our other runner is Delface (pictured above) who contests the 2m handicap chase at 3.45pm.  He has been in good form this season and was only narrowly beaten on his second start over fences at Hereford last month (form that has been franked since).  A 5lbs rise makes things harder but he looks to have every chance under David Noonan.

It was great to be back racing yesterday and the yard was among the winners once again with an across the card double courtesy of Hugo 'N Taz and Meep Meep Mag at Market Rasen and Sedgefield respectively.  Hugo 'N Taz was a good winner of the Lincolnshire National under David Noonan on his first start for the yard and was another shrewd buy by Value Racing Club's James Couldwell.  Unbelievably he is still a novice over fences despite running well in a number of good staying handicaps in Ireland and there should be plenty more races in him.  Meanwhile, Meep Meep Mag ran out an easy winner of the concluding bumper at Market Rasen under Conor O'Farrell.  She had run well to finish in the frame on her previous outings and deserved to get her head in front.  A winner of an Irish point, she will be even better once sent hurdling.  Those successes moved us onto the 48 winner mark for the season.

Christmas Morning Chat - Champers & Hugo!

I hope everyone enjoyed a lovely day yesterday, ate too much and drank too much?!  It was lovely to have some sunshine seeing as though we haven't seen any for a while!  This made it a nice morning for work and spirits were good as the staff were in riding out in their traditional Christmas hats!  All the horses were fed, mucked out and ridden out in good time so that people could go home and spend the day with their families.  David had sixteen around his dinner table and the children enjoyed a wonderful day with lots of nice presents which is the way it is supposed to be!  It was a nice relaxing few hours as we all look forward to the feast of racing action on this Boxing Day.

Merry Christmas everybody!  I hope you will excuse me if today's column is a little shorter than usual.  As you would expect, there is very little on in the way of sport, although the French do race over the sticks at Pau.  You can watch that on Sky Sports Racing if you cannot wait until Boxing Day for some racing action.  You have to feel a bit for the jockeys today - they won't be tucking into Christmas dinner.

It's Christmas Eve so there's only two more sleeps until the racing returns on Boxing Day!  Even so, there is plenty still to be done around the yard in the meantime.  The horses need to be exercised, fed and watered so that means we have a full complement of staff at Pond House this morning and there will be a number of staff on duty tomorrow to make sure that things are kept ticking over as they should.

The Christmas break continues and I am already suffering from withdrawal symptoms!  If like me, you are missing the racing action then you will have to make do with the card from Chantilly which will be shown on Sky Sports Racing.  Unlike us, the French carry on right through Christmas and actually race on Christmas Day as well.  You wouldn't want to be a French jockey doing light on Christmas Day...certainly no turkey, stuffing and all the trimmings for them!

There are now a few blank days from racing before the festive feast on Boxing Day.  I am not sure why we have no racing, I guess it is nice for the jockeys to have a couple of days off but to be honest all the staff and horses will be carrying on at home as normal.  David has entries at six of the seven meetings on Boxing day and while we might not have many runners shown on the ITV races we will be trying to sneak a winner or two around the country!  Declarations for Boxing Day are made on Monday so keep checking back here for more news of our runners throughout the week.
