It's Christmas Eve so there's only two more sleeps until the racing returns on Boxing Day! Even so, there is plenty still to be done around the yard in the meantime. The horses need to be exercised, fed and watered so that means we have a full complement of staff at Pond House this morning and there will be a number of staff on duty tomorrow to make sure that things are kept ticking over as they should.
With Christmas fast approaching there are no meetings on these shores today and once again it is down to the French to provide the action with Cagnes Sur Mer on the south coast covered by Sky Sports Racing. They have nine races on their card and €350,000 in prize money up for grabs. Surely there must be lessons we can learn from how they fund the sport over there?
The staff in the yard enjoyed a lovely Christmas breakfast yesterday with our hostel housekeeper Kathy serving delicious sausage and bacon rolls for everyone. They were certainly much appreciated on a cold, wet morning.

There is also a break from the Premiership football over Christmas with the action also returning on Boxing Day. There are a host of matches on Thursday with the obvious highlight being the Leicester versus Liverpool match at 8pm. These two teams are currently first and second in the league with Liverpool the class of the field. They are ten points clear of their rivals with a game in hand.
I see that Ferrari have tied their brilliant young driver Charles Leclerc to a five year deal following his debut season with the team. With the Italian outfit having already been in talks with Lewis Hamilton with an eye to the 2021 season, that would make some driver line-up. Hamilton may like a challenge, but this would surely be a risky move with everything to lose and nothing to gain.

Why don't penguins fly? Because they are not tall enough to be pilots! The good news for you is that after tomorrow you won't have to read any more Christmas jokes for another twelve months...
