There are just two meetings (hopefully) taking place this afternoon. I say hopefully as Ayr have to pass an 8.30am inspection before they can host their jumps card, meanwhile there is also an all-weather flat card from Newcastle. Tom Scu has one outside ride booked at Ayr so I am not sure if he will be wanting the meeting to go ahead or not!

It was a good weekend for the stable with Daklondike winning the Mandarin Chase at Newbury on Saturday, while Queens Cave won the concluding bumper at Uttoxeter. Daklondike proved to be a very useful staying chaser in the making with a brave victory over the 3m2f trip on heavy ground, winning with a little bit in hand. The further he went, the better he looked and he could well turn out to be a National type. Remember, he is only celebrating his sixth birthday today so it was a fabulous performance under a good ride from Tom Scudamore. Meanwhile, Queens Cave (pictured above) was a taking winner of the mares' bumper yesterday and is now unbeaten in an Irish point and a National Hunt flat race - she looks to be a very good prospect and can rate considerably higher.

Today, weather permitting, we hopefully have two jumps meetings at Uttoxeter and Warwick plus a flat card at Lingfield. David runs two at Uttoxeter. River Dun runs in the 3.00pm handicap hurdle over 2m7f. Our seven year old ran a cracker first time out for the yard a few days ago and it appears she should stay the extra distance. If she reproduces her Boxing day run then she should win with Michael Heard on board again. We also run Queens Cave in the 3.30pm mares bumper. She won an Irish point to point in good style and David bought her at Cheltenham sales and lots of people tried to buy her. Her form looks good and all being well she should win.

Daklondike runs at Newbury
There are four meetings today, jumps cards at Newbury, Haydock and Taunton plus a flat card on the all-weather at Lingfield. David has runners at Newbury and Taunton. Irish Prince runs in the 12.40pm at Newbury, a 2 mile introductory hurdle. He has had two runs in bumpers so far and has to improve on these to win first time over hurdles. Tom Scu rides and he also rides Daklondike in the 2.25pm 3m2f handicap chase. He won last time out at Wincanton and has been consistent all season. This trip will take some getting in this heavy ground but stamina seems to be he forte and he won't mind conditions.

Hopefully there will be two meetings taking place this afternoon, although Doncaster need to pass an inspection at 9am. Tom Scu has picked up a couple of outside rides at the meeting so he will be wanting to hear if the meeting goes ahead sooner rather than later. The other meeting is on the all-weather at Southwell where there are no anticipated problems. Just think, it is entirely possible that there is just one meeting taking place today with just £31,000 up for grabs across their seven race card. There is another excellent card at Leopardstown today and all eyes will be on Faugheen when he has his second start of the campaign at 2.30pm. If they are getting the rain that we have had overnight I would think that the ground will be pretty heavy.

Following the abandonment of Leicester today, we are left with just two meetings, although that may change yet with an early morning inspection planned ahead of Catterick's meeting. It's not often I say it, but it is a good job that the all weather at Lingfield is okay! There is an excellent card at Leopardstown this afternoon which features a fascinating clash between Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Sizing John and the incredible potential of Yorkhill, as well as a Grade One hurdle which features Apples Jade. There are no runners from Pond House this afternoon.

Sadly the Welsh National meeting at Chepstow that was scheduled to take place this afternoon has been abandoned due to the inclement weather. The big race is now due to be rescheduled for some time in January. That leaves us with just three meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Kempton and Wetherby while there is an all-weather flat card from Wolverhampton. David has one runner today as Vaniteux contests the 2.30pm race at Kempton; a two mile chase worth £90,000. There are only four runners, but as you can imagine for that sort of cash they are fairly good! Vaniteux would need to improve on his most recent outings to win this, although even the fourth home picks up nearly £5,000...that is more than you get for winning quite a few races. Meanwhile, David Noonan has picked up some outside rides at Wetherby - it's a long way to go, so let's hope he is among the winners.
