Tom Scu goes to Aintree today to ride Vieux Lion Rouge and La Vaticane over the Grand Nationa fences.n  Vieux Lion Rouge runs in the 1.35pm Becher Chase over 3m2f.  There are 24 runners runners competing for £140,000 prize money.  Our seven year old had some fair form last season, including finishing seventh in the Grand National while only a novice.  You just need some luck in running but hopefully he can get some.  La Vaticane runs in the 3.15pm Grand Sefton chase over 2m5f also over the big fences.  She also has experience over the fences having finished second in the Topham in April.  She was a good second on her seasonal reappearance at Market Rasen and again with a bit of luck hopefully she can run well.

It was a good day for the stable yesterday and a cracking way to kick off the month of December with a double at Market Rasen courtesy of Susie Sheep (pictured above) and Chic Theatre.  Susie Sheep was winning her first race under rules in the novices' handicap chase.  She jumped soundly and ran out a ready winner and looks capable of scoring again.  Chic Theatre (pictured below) completed the double in the handicap hurdle - this represented his easiest task to date over timber and he made no mistake, winning with a little bit in hand.  The better ground looked to suit him quite well.

***Update – Wincanton Abandoned***

There are four meetings this afternoon (inspections allowing) with jumps action scheduled at Leicester, Market Rasen and Wincanton while there is a most-weather card from Chelmsford City.  If all the racing goes ahead without a problem David will run Martabot at Wincanton in the 1m7 1/2f handicap hurdle at 2.15pm - our five year old has not run for 907 days but he had some fair form in France and David Noonan takes 3lbs off his back.  Meanwhile, we will also have three runners at Market Rasen courtesy of Vincent's Forever, Susie Sheep and Chic Theatre (pictured above).

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps action from Catterick and Ffos Las while there are most-weather flat fixtures from Lingfield and Kempton. David runs Obistar in the 1.50pm race at Ffos Las - a three mile handicap hurdle. The more testing the conditions, the better for him as his best form has come on very heavy ground including when winning at this track and his long suit is definitely stamina. He is still 4lbs higher than his best winning mark but is consistent and has each-way claims once again under stable jockey Tom Scudamore.

There are jumps cards at Lingfiled and Southwell this afternoon as well as an all-weather flat fixture from Newcastle.  There have already been early morning inspections at Southwell and Lingfield this morning and the bad news is that they both have to inspect again.  Lingfield are hopeful while Southwell are optimistic - let's hope that we have a bit of racing to look forward to.  At least the 'most weather' racing from Newcastle goes ahead!  If it all gets the nod David will have four runners at Lingfield; Poisoned Berry, Heath Hunter, Cafe du Paris and Rathealy.

I went up to Newbury for the Hennessy on Saturday and saw a lot of the old faces - they are the same faces as years ago, just older!  Racing still desperately needs to broaden it's appeal to engage the younger generation.  It was a good day for Tom Scudamore as he had little more than a schooling session aboard Thistlecrack.  Un Temps Pour Tout was disappointing in the big one in tenth place and is certainly better than he was able to show on the day.  This is the last year that the race is going to be known as the Hennessy and it brings an end to 60 years of sponsorship - the race will have to be renamed and it will take some getting used to.

There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon with jumping from Carlisle and Leicester.  David has one runner with La Vaticane (pictured above) making the long journey all the way up to Carlisle for the 2m4f mares' chase at 1.55pm.  She ran a good first race of the season when runner-up at Market Rasen despite being badly impeded at the last and she is entitled to have come on for that outing.  She looks to have a great chance under Tom Scudamore.
