Champers On Ice (pictured above) made a very satisfactory debut over fences yesterday when coming home the very easy winner of Uttoxeter's three mile novices' chase. You couldn't see an awful lot because of the fog, but he jumped proficiently (if a little left at times) under Tom Scudamore and came home 27 lengths clear of his nearest rival and he can clearly go on to much better things. He rates a very exciting prospect. Meanwhile, Mister Drifter shaped with promise in the bumper and I think he will improve a great deal for the experience.

***Mango Cup Non Runner
Uttoxeter 2.00pm***
There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with Uttoxeter passing their early morning inspection, they are joined by Fontwell and Southwell. David runs Champers On Ice, Mango Cap and Mister Drifter today. Champers On Ice (pictured above) developed into one of the top staying novice hurdlers last season and he makes his eagerly awaited chasing debut this afternoon. He has scared away most of the opposition (there are only two that line up against him) and he is a 2/5 shot - with a clear round he ought to win and he has schooled very well at home. Let's hope he produces a good display.

What an amazing weekend for the stable with Vieux Lion Rouge landing the valuable Becher Chase over the Grand National fences at Aintree in a thrilling finish. Tom Scu rode an absolute blinder to grab the rail after the elbow and force our geldings head in front in the dying strides. He jumped the National fences like an old hand, just as he had in the big one in April and I would imagine that he has booked his return ticket here.

Dynaste runs at Kelso
There are two jumps cards today at Huntingdon and Kelso. David has three runners, two at Huntingdon, Sweettoothtommmy and The Two Amigos and Dynaste runs at Kelso. Sweettoothtommy runs in the 12.30pm, a 2m4f handicap hurdle. He was third in a novice hurdle at Chepstow last time out, 18 days ago which was a nice run but he will probably have to improve again to win this race. David Noonan rides and takes three pounds off. The Two Amigos runs in the 2.30pm 2 mile novice hurdle. He is an Irish point to point winner who ran a nice sort of race on his hurdling debut last time at Chepstow so hopefully he can build on this. Tom Scu goes to Kelso to ride Dynaste in the veterans chase at 2.50pm. There is good prize money of £30,000 on offer and this is a little easier than some of his more recent races but he still has to carry top weight and give weight to some good horses.

Vieux Lion Rouge runs in the Becher Chase
Tom Scu goes to Aintree today to ride Vieux Lion Rouge and La Vaticane over the Grand Nationa fences. Vieux Lion Rouge runs in the 1.35pm Becher Chase over 3m2f. There are 24 runners competing for £140,000 prize money. Our seven year old had some fair form last season, including finishing seventh in the Grand National while only a novice. You just need some luck in running but hopefully he can get some. La Vaticane runs in the 3.15pm Grand Sefton chase over 2m5f also over the big fences. She also has experience over the fences having finished second in the Topham in April. She was a good second on her seasonal reappearance at Market Rasen and again with a bit of luck hopefully she can run well.

It was a good day for the stable yesterday and a cracking way to kick off the month of December with a double at Market Rasen courtesy of Susie Sheep (pictured above) and Chic Theatre. Susie Sheep was winning her first race under rules in the novices' handicap chase. She jumped soundly and ran out a ready winner and looks capable of scoring again. Chic Theatre (pictured below) completed the double in the handicap hurdle - this represented his easiest task to date over timber and he made no mistake, winning with a little bit in hand. The better ground looked to suit him quite well.
