There isn't a great deal of action today with only three meetings taking place, but at least two of them are over the sticks and one of them is at our local track Newton Abbot! The stable has four runners at the Devon track courtesy of Enfant de Lune, Home Run, Businessmoney Judi and Vertige Dore. Enfant de Lune ran an absolute blinder at the last meeting last Sunday when runner-up to stablemate Shoegazer in the valuable Listed Mildmay Chase. A repeat of that performance would see him very close this afternoon, so let's hope that he can do so under stable jockey Tom Scudamore.

I was very impressed by Richard Hannon's juvenile filly Sky Lantern as she won the Group One at the Curragh. The two year old was given a great ride by champion jockey elect Richard Hughes. His confidence seems to be sky high at the moment and that confidence seems to reflect in the horses he rides. In truth, she probably wasn't even the best horse in the race, but she did the business and is now a Group One winner and will be a valuable commodity in the paddocks regardless of how she progresses from now on.

I will be watching the delayed men's final of the US Open tennis tonight with interest as Andy Murray bids to break his Grand Slam duck. He takes on Novak Djokovic who he defeated on his way to his Olympic gold medal. Murray will certainly need to bring his "A-game" if he is to beat the Serb who is contesting his third successive final at Flushing Meadow, having said that, this is probably his best chance yet of landing a big one.

It was a great weekend for sport and I enjoyed watching the football match between Crawley and Portsmouth. It wasn't a dirty match although the referee sent off two Crawley players - the quicker we can turn to technology to sort out a farce like this, the better. I don't like to knock referees, but this one in particular did make plenty of bad calls - unsurprisingly Portsmouth won 3-0 against nine man Crawley.

I see that Lewis Hamilton won the Italian Grand Prix at Monza yesterday afternoon. Personally I would like to see htem all competing in one of those Smart cars - then we really would see who is the best driver of them all! Lewis Hamilton probably has the most expensive earrings - I reckon the Stirling Moss would be absolutely mortified!
