With all of the excitement of Shergar Cup day at Ascot yesterday, this afternoon feels like something of an anti-climax with only Folkestone and Leicester hosting flat cards this afternoon.  However there is excellent action on the menu over in Ireland where The Curragh have no less than four Group races on their card, while there is a jumps meeting at Downpatrick where it looks to be a very competitive day's racing.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see how Excelebration gets on in Group One company in France this afternoon without Frankel in attendance.  You have to feel sorry for Excelebration who has been used as something of a punchbag by his nemesis, who has beaten him on all five occasions that they have met.  Indeed, last time at Ascot he was dealt his most heavy defeat yet and while holding on for second, he looked as though he had had enough - I will be fascinated to see how he performs today.

I can't believe that the Olympics come to a close tonight.  It only seems a day or two ago that they opened with the Queen parachuting into the Olympic Stadium!  I don't know what I am going to do for entertainment when it is all over.  We can be very proud of our team who finished third in the overall medals table - by far and away their best Games in over one hundred years.  I hate to gloat BUT...where were the Aussies?  Did they send a team to the Olympics?!  Keep smiling and have a good weekend.
