We had one runner at Kempton yesterday evening, On Khee in the apprentices' handicap over 1m3 1/2f.  She was unable to challenge and was ultimately a little disappointing.  The course at Kempton has come under fire in recent days from trainers and jockeys who claim that the surface (relaid over the summer) is unacceptable.  It is certainly riding on the slow side but then the official going has been described as standard/slow so I don't know what everyone was expecting.

Grands_Crus_2_SelwynI see that David made Tweet of the Day in the Racing Post for his comments on dashing grey Grands Crus (picture left courtesy of Bill Selwyn), who galloped for the first time yesterday since coming back in from his summer holiday.  David tweeted,"Grands Crus had his first gallop this morning...I'm glad I wasn't on him!  I reckon he would be glad I wasn't on him too!"  Grands Crus has always been famous for taking a fierce hold on the racecourse and he was obviously showing all of his trademark exuberance on the gallops yesterday!

It's amazing how success breeds complacency!  There are a number of people despairing because the Great British team did not
mcp_kayaks.jpgwin a gold medal yesterday.  It is certainly worth remembering that as recently as 1996 the British team only won one gold at the entire Olympics.  A haul of 22 golds is an incredible achievement in only four subsequent Games.

Anyway, Martin and Carol have travelled up to London with George and Angie Malde to get their first flavour of the Olympics by watching some of the kayaking events that take place today.  As you can see from the picture (right), they are all kitted out to support the Brits - let's just hope they are on hand to witness another medal winning performance.

The USPGA golf starts today in South Carolina and I can't wait.  There has been some quite interesting movements in the betting with Tiger Woods drifting markedly - the former number one played solidly to finish third in the British Open, but I just wonder whether conditions have started to come right for Rory McIlroy who may be worth a couple of quid at odds of around 20/1.
