I thought that yesterday's runner on the flat, Beyond ran a very decent race to finish fourth under young Willy Twiston-Davies in the Goodwood Stakes over the marathon trip of 2m5f.  Willy gave our five year old a very positive ride from the front and he was only collared just inside the final furlong.  He certainly appeared to see out the trip well and I am sure there are further races to be won with him on the flat or over hurdles.  Meanwhile the stable has one runner this evening at Ffos Las on the flat, Hunterview who will be partnered by Simon Pearce in the 1m4f handicap.

There was a great day of action on the first day of Glorious Goodwood yesterday afternoon and I must praise Richard Hughes for his ride aboard Olympic Glory - it was a ride by a consumate artist to win by half a length.  The two year old carried a 3lbs penalty for an earlier success and didn't appear to handle the track too well and was outpaced at an early stage.  Indeed, his mount was still ninth of the ten runners with a furlong to go but Hughes galvanised his mount to get up in the shadow of the post.

Speaking of Frankel before his race yesterday afternoon, Hughes said that he was the greatest racehorse he had ever seen.  Yesterday saw another amazing performance from the wonder four year old, winning in a canter to record his twelfth consecutive success.  He looks to me as though he will have no trouble getting further, and could even improve once stepped up to a mile and a quarter - now there's an incredible prospect!

I was amazed that one person was having a go about the £300,000 on offer for Frankel's success yesterday.  He was complaining that with just four runners, including his pacemaker who would receive just shy of £17,000 for finishing last and he might have a point.  However, you can't blame the other trainers for wanting to avoid this monster - surely the moaner would be better off telling his children and grandchildren when they grow up about how he had seen the best ever racehorse?

This afternoon there are five meetings taking place with four of them on the flat at Goodwood, Epsom, Ffos Las and Nottingham, while there is one jump meeting at Stratford.

Over at the Olympics Great Britain beat Uruquay 1-0 in the football last night and will now play Korea in the quarter finals.  Meanwhile Team GB did win a couple of golds yesterday courtesy of the phenomenal Bradley Wiggins who now becomes the winning most British Olympian, and the rowers Helen Glover and Heather Stanning.  Well done guys, more of the same please!
