Have you ever dreamed of owning a runner in the World's Greatest Steeplechase, the Grand National at Aintree?  Until now, such a opportunity has been afforded only to the wealthy, but now we are proud to make this dream an attainable reality by offering ten shares in Grand National entry Swing Bill at a cost of £4,000 per share.  Swing Bill is an ultra consistent gelding who recorded a personal best effort when winning at Cheltenham's Open meeting in December, and he has experience of the Grand National fences, having raced over them twice previously (including when 5th in last season's Topham Chase).  Your stake will cover all costs until the end of the season - to register your interest contact us on 01884 840715, or e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - make sure to be quick though, as with only ten shares available this is a very limited opportunity.

Beattie_Green_gallops

The stable has two runners this afternoon, Beattie Green (pictured above) who runs at Stratford and is ridden by Tom Scudamore, and Bathwick Brave at Uttoxeter, who will be partnered by Conor O'Farrell.  Beattie Green ran creditably enough at Taunton last time out and the step up in trip could help her, while Bathwick Brave possesses plenty of ability and will be winning sooner or later.

I see that Taunton have made the wise and sensible early decision to transfer their 12th April fixture to Newton Abbot due to ground conditions.  Obviously they think we are not going to get any more rain around here in the short-term, while Newton Abbot are able to water their course with help from the river next to the track - a luxury that most tracks do not enjoy.  I know that it is a shame for the management at Taunton to lose their final meeting of the sesason to the elements, but they should be applauded for taking these steps now.

With the Grand National now only a couple of weeks away, we will have to start practicing our rain dances!  I can remember Martin's 1981 Triumph Hurdle winner Baron Blakeney needing rain to participate in the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle.  MCP and owner Bob Wheatley went up the night before and were praying for rain.  They certainly got their wish...it rained so much overnight that the meeting was abandoned due to waterlogging!

I see that Sir Henry Cecil is going to take the world's greatest horse Frankel for a racecourse gallop at Newbury's Spring meeting in three weeks.  The grass gallops at Newmarket are currently unusable owing to the extraordinarily dry conditions, but that is certainly good news for racegoers at Newbury - I am sure that plenty of them will stay behind to witness poetry in motion.

It is Alistair Lidderdale's 48th birthday today.  Alistair was an Assistant at Pond House many years ago and I will always remember him owning quite possibly the biggest pair of binoculars that I have ever seen!  He is sending out a few winners himself these days...many happy returns Alistair!

My football bets for the weekend will be Everton at 20/23, Tottenham at 4/9 and Sheffield Wednesday at 4/7 - good luck and have an excellent weekend!
