The stable only had a couple of runners at Lingfield yesterday afternoon and I thought that Martial Law ran a cracker to finish fourth in what looked to be a decent novices' hurdle, just ahead of well backed favourite Joseph Lister.  The first time cheekpieces seemed to bring about some improvement and he looks to be capable of picking up a race or two on this evidence.  We have no runners today, although there are good cards over the sticks at Sandown and Warwick and it will be interesting to see how the champion trainer's horses get on.

I could scarcely believe my ears yesterday when I heard a football manager admit that he was wrong!  Sir Alex Ferguson says that he picked the wrong team when they were beaten 2-1 by Ajax at Old Trafford.  United went through 3-2 on aggregate, so they live to fight another day but the final few minutes were certainly tense!

Tiger Woods is out of the ATP Open Golf Championship having been beaten in the second round by Nick Watney.  Woods' golfing mind just doesn't seem to be engaged at the moment - if his opponent had hit a ball into the desert among the cacti in the past, Tiger would have hit a safety shot down the middle of the fairway.  Nowadays he gets his driver out and bangs it into the desert as well!  Any golfer will tell you that if your opponent is in trouble you keep your ball in play - having said that, I don't think Tiger will take my advice!
