It was another good weekend for the yard with a couple of winners on Saturday and a winner with our only runner at Market Rasen on Sunday.  Massini's Maguire put up a wonderful performance at Ascot in the very competitive handicap chase - he clearly loves the track having now won there on three of his four appearances.  It was a good training performance from David too, the horse has had no end of problems throughout the years but keeps coming back and he has now won on two of his three starts since joining the yard.

Over at Wincanton Painter Man scored in determined fashion under young Tom Bellamy.  Tom took a handy 10lbs off the winner's back and I am sure that such a generous weight allowance helped swing the verdict in our favour - he never panicked and galvanised our charge to a 1/2 length success.  It is certainly handy to be able claim such a big allowance, mind you the jockey's do need to be able to ride - fortunately Tom certainly can!

I thought that veteran Tamarinbleu also put up a fine performance in finishing third over hurdles at Haydock on Saturday.  Better known as a Grade One winning chaser, the very testing ground helped him to finish a highly creditable third in the Pertemps Qualifier at the fancy odds of 33/1.

Fiulin_Market_Rasen_webYesterday Fiulin (pictured right) posted a good first effort for the yard when reappearing from a 338 day absence to win at Market Rasen.  He jumped out and made all the running under a positive ride from Tom Scu.  Fitness was obviously not a problem and he stayed on really strongly to beat his main market rival - another good training performance from David.

We make the long trip to Carlisle this afternoon with four runners - Big Occasion, Quinte du Chatelet, Shaking Hands and Take Over Sivola.  Carlisle is a really stiff track and you really need a horse that stays - fortunately all of ours fit that bill so let's hope that they can keep the stable's rich vein of form going.

What about the post-fight press conference at the weekend?  Recently unretired fighter David Haye was present at the Klitschko title fight and he became involved in a brawl after the match with the vanquished Chisora.  He took more punches in the ensuing melee than he did in his previous bout and it makes me wonder why we suffer these fools - they are nothing but hype?  Can you imagine the likes of Haye facing a young Tyson or Clay?...absolutely not
