Market Rasen Today

We have just the one runner this afternoon at Market Rasen, talented ex-flat stayer Fiulin who makes his debut for the yard in the novices' hurdle at 1.40pm - he will be ridden by Tom Scudamore.  I was able to catch him on the gallops earlier in the week when he was working upsides Terfel's Toscar.

I can't believe how quickly time goes by - soon we will be having the first of the Cheltenham Preview Evening's.  They are always good fun and quite informative, although if you listened to everyone on these panels you would quickly end up in the poor house!  I remember doing one in Ireland a few years ago in a theatre - it was absolutely packed and went on for about three hours until midnight...it just goes to show how much the Irish love their racing.  Afterwards everyone retired to the bar and stayed up drinking until about 3am - they are also quite partial to the odd beverage!

I am sure that David's calendar will be quite full over the coming weeks - he is at Exeter on 23rd February and Wincanton on 1st March and those are just the ones I know of.  A whole host of celebrities normally make these panels, although interestingly I never see A P McCoy's name on any panels - maybe he goes to bed too early?!

A few of my mates were talking about Long Run following his win at Newbury on Friday.  Personally I thought that it was a satisfactory performance conceding 10lbs to the runner-up.  I am sure that there will be a bit left to work on yet and the stiffer track will suit him better - he looks a worthy favourite in his bid to follow-up last year's success.

Also on Friday, Sprinter Sacre put up an impressive performance in the Game Spirit - he earned the highest Racing Post Rating for a novice since Gloria Victis slammed Marlborough in the 2000 Racing Post Chase.
