The stable continues in good form and we enjoyed another success when Quinte du Chatelet won the 2m6 1/2f handicap hurdle under Tom Scudamore providing the owners Brocade Racing with their 30th winner.  Our eight year old jumped out, made all and never saw another horse as he gradually burnt off his pursuers to record a ten length victory.  This was a really good performance under 11-7 and he is clearly very effective under these testing conditions - if he can be found another similar opportunity, he looks like he could be able to follow-up.

It is a quiet day for us on the racing front with no runners today, although we are likely to have runners at both of tomorrow's meetings at Fontwell and Huntingdon.  Don't forget to check back here for the latest news on those.

A P McCoy makes his return to the saddle this afternoon having broken some ribs in a nasty incident at Taunton at the end of December.  He takes the ride aboard Key To The West for Nicky Henderson in the closing bumper at Warwick.  It is great to have the champ back, although he is definitely getting softer in his old age - in the old days he would have ridden in all six races!...only joking A P!

Talking of jockeys, I see that they are looking into the ride young 7lbs conditional jockey Steven Gagan gave the Ian Williams trained Kickahead at Musselburgh a fortnight ago - the jockey became unbalanced and in fairness it did look like a very soft unseat.  Having said that, I once fell off a horse that wasn't travelling as fast as that and I broke my wrist, so I find it hard to believe that anyone would jump off on purpose.  If you wanted to get a horse beaten, there must surely be safer ways of doing it than by jumping off!

I see that one of our former employees (and now successful trainer in his own right), Gordon Elliott managed to get himself into trouble with the stewards at Musselburgh yesterday.  They found him guilty of improper conduct and fined him £200 for standing on the course along with a stable employee to make sure that his charge, Oscar Hill did not run out on the home bend as has happened in the past.  Personally I think they should thank Gordy for having the brains and presence of mind not to allow this to happen as any loose horse is potentially dangerous.

It is the birthday of another former Pond House employee, Sandy May who is 61 today.  Sandy used to ride for MCP in the very early days...funny, I always used to think that he was older than me but I guess he always just looked old!  Anyway, many happy returns Sandy.
