There is one jumps meeting this evening at Ffos Las and the stable has one runner, Mancero who runs in the lucky last at 7.42pm. This is a 2m4f handicap hurdle and Jack Tudor rides. He ran well at Wincanton last time, staying on from off the pace to finish a never nearer fourth, in a race that it did not pay to be held up in. If he backs up that run then he has to have a chance in this and he is about 6/1 third best in the betting. While he probably might prefer the ground a bit quicker than it is, I think the track will really suit. In my opinion, it is the most like a French course that we have over here. He shows us a lot more at home than he has on the racecourse but I would like to think this is where he can run well tonight.
The Ffos Las meeting gets underway at 4.38pm and Jack Tudor has a few rides and looks to have a nice couple chances of winners. The racing is competitive however with plenty of runners as this is probably the best jumping ground of anywhere in the country at present. The have had a nice bit of rain and I imagine it will be genuine good to soft going. There are three flat fixtures today at Pontefract, Yarmouth and Wolverhampton and there is no racing in Ireland. There was due to be racing at Epsom today as well, their first meeting of 2026 but that had to be postponed a week after their irrigation system broke and they were not able to water the track. Brighton are having problems at their track and it was announced yesterday that their next three intended fixtures on April 28th and 29th and their meeting on 7th May have been transferred to Yarmouth, Bath and Windsor respectively and the race programme will try to mirror what was originally planned at Brighton.
Yesterday, I mentioned about the hunter chase up at Kelso and it was duly won by the J J O'Shea trained, Henry Crowe ridden Boley Bob. This duo have of course won the Cheltenham and Aintree Foxhunters this season and the trainer said that this horse was better than the winner of those two races, Barton Snow. While the six year old Boley Bob does have a way to go to prove this on the track yet, he did put in a likeable performance and you can only beat what is put in front of you. This horse apparently heads to Stratford next at the end of May for their hunter chase meeting and I will watch with interest again there.
West Ham were held to a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace last night which gives Spurs a glimmer of hope that they might not be doomed to certain relegation just yet. They are now just two points behind the Hammers having played the same amount of games and so there is all to play for. There is one Premiership fixture this evening, Brighton are at home to Chelsea at 8pm.
Somerset beat Hampshire in their county cricket match which finished yesterday. At this very early stage of the season, Somerset sit nicely at the top of the Championship.
Just started working at a bicycle factory this week...
They already made me the spokesperson.
