There are two jumps meetings today at Plumpton and Stratford but the stable does not have any runners. I see Rian Corcoran does not have any rides but Jack Tudor is in action at Stratford for Christian Williams. There is no flat racing on this side of the Irish sea today while in Ireland they race on the flat at the Curragh and have a jumps fixture at the Curragh. There is point to point action closer to home at Cotley and so I shall let you know if any of our jockeys have any success tomorrow.
I see there was good news for Irish racing during last week in that Thurles racecourse has been saved for at least next season with racing set to continue there. Thurles is Ireland's only privately owned racecourse and last August it was announced the track was closing with immediate effect because of financial reasons. A couple of weeks after this the track came to an agreement with Horse Racing Ireland and racing continued this season but there was still uncertainty about its long term future. The success of meetings this season has meant things are set to continue into 2027.
Epsom has lost its first intended fixture of the season which was due to be next Tuesday but yesterday it was announced that is was going to be put back a week. A fault with the tracks irrigation system has meant that they have not been able to water and due to the uniqueness of the course, it was felt that racing could not take place without water having been put on. Delays in fixing the problem have meant watering will not be able to resume until 21st April and the meeting will now take place on Tuesday 28th of the month.
There are four Premiership football matches today with the crucial top of the table clash at 4,30pm between Manchester City and Arsenal. The Gunners have a six point lead over City but they have played a game more and so if City win today they could go level on points if they win their game in hand. Arsenal have not been at their best of late and it will be tough for them at the Emirates. The other games kick off at 2pm and we have Aston Villa at home to Sunderland, a Merseyside Derby with Everton at home to Liverpool and Nottingham Forrest are at home to Burnley.
