Final Entry runs at Southwell this Evening
There are two jumps meetings today at Catterick and Leicester and while the stable does not have any runners over jumps we do have one this evening on the flat at Southwell. Final Entry runs in the 8.00pm handicap over two miles and Jack Dace rides. Final Entry is a five year old gelding by Galileo who is very lightly raced and this will be his first run back from an enforced break. He won a juvenile hurdle for us on stable debut at Newton Abbot while still a colt in July 2024 and was placed after this before being gelded and having one run for us on the flat at Ffos Las. That wasn't a great run but that was on heavy ground and he picked up a tendon injury after this and has been absent since. He is bred in the 'purple' being by Galileo and he is full brother to Mr Tambourine Man who won several races for us and another half brother is also a three time winner on the all-weather over this sort of distance.
It is difficult to know quite what to expect today as although he is returning from a long absence he seems in great form at home and has grown up a lot in the time off. We decided to go for a run on the flat with the ground being so testing over jumps at the moment and this looked a good opportunity. He runs off a mark of 67 which looks fair and although he is one of the outsiders in the field I would like to think he has an each way chance and wouldn't put anyone off having a few pennies on.
There are not many runners at Leicester today, with seven being the maximum field size. The ground will be testing and hard work so if you are looking for the winners today make sure they like that sort of ground! Alongside Southwell on the all-weather today there is racing at Newcastle.
The Cheltenham Festival handicap weights are revealed later today and so by this afternoon everyone will have a clearer idea as to what horses are likely to get in what races. The Champion Bumper entries also close this morning and we plan to enter No Walkover.
Manchester United beat Everton 1-0 last night, it was a pretty dull error strewn match on the whole but it was a very good goal and I am happy we got the three points! There is Champions League knock out action this evening, Newcastle play their second leg at home to Qarabag. They have a 6-1 advantage from the first leg and it should be plain sailing for them to progress this evening.
The England men's cricketers are back in action in the T20 World Cup today. They play Pakistan with the game starting at 1.30pm. This game will be a tough one and they will have to bat better than they did again Sri Lanka on Sunday if they are to win.
