The Gallops in Drier Times!
Ffos Las has passed it's 7.30am inspection, racing goes ahead and we have one runner, Turenne. I had my doubts whether racing would go ahead there today but they have had significantly less rainfall there than we have has in the last 24 hours. The track recorded 4.8mm and the ground is described as heavy, soft in places. We have had 16mm on rain in the last 24 hours which takes our total to 90mm for the last five days and there is more to come for us later today. Both our sand and woodchip gallops are holding up well however and it is business as usual on the yard this morning. If the forecast is correct then we should at least get the riding out done in the dry before the rain returns later which would be very welcomed by those riding out.
Turenne runs in the 1.50pm novices hurdle over two miles and Jack Tudor rides. Our four year old has been a little unlucky not to have won in either of his two starts in Britain so far. He narrowly lost out in a photo finish on British debut but his victor that day has won again since and franked the form. He looked set to win on his last run at Fontwell but fell at the final flight when looking to have the race at his mercy. Hopefully he can gain compensation this afternoon and he is short priced favourite to do so. There are couple of non-runners leaving a total of eight in the race and the main danger looks to be the Henry Daly trained Titanium Ring who was also running well on his last start before capsizing. The third in the betting is the 300/1 Exeter winner who we know handles the ground so that could be a danger. We should like the track and the ground and I think this represents a good opportunity for our gelding to get his first win in Britain. Jack Tudor looks to have a couple of good chances of winners today while Rian Corcoran heads to Ffos Las for one ride as well.
There is also another jumps meeting up at Catterick today while there are two all-weather fixtures at Southwell and Wolverhampton. In Ireland they have an all-weather fixture at Dundalk.
There were wins in the Europa League last night for Aston Villa, Celtic and Nottingham Forrest. Aston Villa are already through to the last 16 while the other two teams have play-off places. Tonight there is just one Championship football match this evening between Bristol City and Derby.
We know the finalists for the women at the Australian Open, Aryna Sabalenka against Elyna Rybakina and that will take place tomorrow. The men's semi-finals are today and there is currently a great match taking place between Carlos Alcaraz and Andre Zverez, with the latter coming back from two sets down to take the match to a deciding fifth set. Novak Djokovoc will play Jannik Sinner play later this morning.
There are two types of people in this world: those who can't relax when there are dishes in the sink and those that don't even notice them.
And they end up marrying each other!
Have a great Friday!
