The new week starts with jumps meeting at Plumpton but the stable does not have any runners. There are two all-weather flat fixtures at Lingfield and Wolverhampton. In Ireland there is one jumps meeting at Naas.
There has been a lot of talk in the last few days about the Epsom Derby and the need to reinvigorate the big day. The race itself will now be worth £2 million in prize money and they have also moved the Coronation Cup back to the Saturday slot. There will be free entry for the under 18s, free parking, temporary stands on the inside of the track and a new are on the Hill to be called DerbyFest. This year’s Derby drew a crowd of just over 22,000 people (4,000 down from 2024) and trend that has been occurring over the last 25 years. Indeed, when Galileo won the Derby in 2021 the attendance was 53,177.
There is also planned investment at Aintree and Cheltenham, the two biggest racecourse to make them amongst the best sporting experiences in the UK. They do say however they will not be forgetting about the smaller courses in their portfolio.
Over the weekend there were wins for Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal on Saturday. There is one Premier League football match this evening, Manchester United are at home to Bournemouth at 8pm.
If anyone wants to sponsor me, I’ll be running a 0.002K this weekend to raise awareness for laziness.
Happy Monday!
