Jaipaletemps & Rian Corcoran Winners Ffos Las
It was a very wet and soggy day for everyone at Ffos las yesterday but the team left the course with happy smiles following a win for Jaipaletemps and a first professional win for young conditional jockey Rian Corcoran. It was special for me as it was our own family horse who mum claimed from France and I look after here at the yard every day. It was our six year old's first win in Britain, his fourth in his career and he was given a great ride by Rian. He had been running okay without winning earlier in the summer but we gave him a little break and this was the first time he encountered the soft ground which he performed best on in France.
My parents colours were carried to victory 31 years ago by a certain A P McCoy on a horse called Chickabiddy at Exeter in September 1994, his first winner in Britain. Yesterday, they were worn by Rian for his first win as a professional jockey so an extra little bit of sentiment for everyone involved. Rian was champion novice point to point rider last season and he rides very well. His ten pound claim is very valuable at the moment and it was good to get that first win under his belt and he is a name to follow going forwards.
Our other runners over the weekend all ran well. Pachacuti put up a much improved display to be third at Ffos Las and this will have done his confidence the world of good. Allstitchedup had not runs for 12 month but ran a lovely race to be third. He travelled well and cruised into contention before a mistake at the third last cost him any chance of winning and he got a little tired. It was a pleasing return to action and he will improve a lot for this run. King Turgeon ran a super race to be third in the Grand Sefton chase at Aintree on Saturday. He couldn't quite get in the same rhythm as he did twelve months ago on account of quicker ground but he still held every chance jumping the last. He had a bit of traffic problems approaching the elbow which didn't help but he galloped all the way to the line to be sixth, only beaten eight lengths and you could not fault his effort from a twelve pound higher mark. The good news is that all the horses are fine after their races at the weekend and we can look forward to them all running again in the coming weeks.
It is a quiet Monday on the racing front with just two jumps meetings at Carlisle and Kempton. Flat racing takes a mini-break and there is no racing in Ireland today. The stable does not have any runners today.
There was a great weekend of sporting action away from the racing with wins in the International rugby matches for England and Ireland while Scotland lost to New Zealand and Wales lost to Argentina yesterday. Lando Norris won the Brazilian Grand Prix while Aaron Rai beat fellow Englishman Tommy Fleetwood in a play off to win the Abu Dhabi golf championship. Manchester City beat Liverpool 3-0 in the Premiership football yesterday and there were plenty of goals in all the top flight games. Arsenal sit pretty at the top of the table.
My husband thinks it is weird that I stare at the window during a heavy rainstorm.
It would be a lot less weird if he'd just let me in!
Happy Monday!
