We have one runner today at Ffos Las, Order of the Dance who makes his Pond House and British debut in the 2.40pm handicap hurdle over 2m4f and Jack Tudor rides. There are six runners in the race and our five year old is currently favourite and I hope he can justify that position and win! He is lightly raced and yet to win a race but he has finished runner up on three of his seven career starts, including on his last start at Downpatrick in July. He has settled in well since coming over from Ireland and goes nicely at home. This looks a good opportunity for him to get his first win.
Ffos Las is not the only jumps meeting today, they also race over the sticks at Carlisle. There are not masses of runners at Ffos Las as the ground is perhaps quicker than ideal for many but they do have at least three runners in every race and Sean Bowen is probably the jockey to follow at the meeting. They have slightly more runners at Carlisle where the ground is not quite as quick. There is also plenty of flat racing today with meetings at Brighton, Chelmsford and Southwell while in Ireland the flat action is at the Curragh with some jumping at Thurles.
Rian Corcoran had another good spin at Worcester yesterday with his horse, Locked Down Lad finishing third in the final race on the card so it more valuable experience under his belt.
Declarations are made this morning for Champions Day at Ascot on Saturday so just after 10am we will know the runners for each of the races in what promises to be a great finale to the flat season.
The England women's cricketers got a bit lucky in their World Cup match against Pakistan yesterday with the rain almost certainly stopping a loss. England batted first and were poor, only reaching 133-9 of 31 overs before rain interrupted play. Pakistan were 34-0 in their reply when further rain brought an end to the match. England had been playing well but were outplayed in this game will have to now bounce back with a better performance if they are to go further in the competition.
A lot of the World's best golfers, including many of the European Ryder Cup team winners are in India playing in a championship over there and from looking at social media they all seem to be very relaxed and are enjoying being over there. Rory McIlory is-3 after his first round while Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood are currently in action.
My friend handed me two kayak paddles and asked, "Which one do you want?"
I said "I'd take either oar"!
Have a good day.
