There is plenty of good racing action on today with Newmarket taking centre stage but they also race on the flat at Haydock, Ripon and Southwell.  There is a jumps card at Market Rasen but the stable does not have any runners.  In Ireland, we have a flat card at the Curragh and the seventh day of the Listowel Festival with jumps action.

There are two Group 1 contests at Newmarket as well as the 24-runner Cambridgeshire handicap over a 1m1f.  This race goes off at 3.40pm and it looks tricky to pick the winner in an open looking betting race.  The Cheveley Park Stakes is a Group 1 contest for fillies over 6F at 2.25pm.  Ed Walker has the favourite in Royal Fixation but I am a fan of True Love who is 4/1 third best in the betting.  The Ballydoyle filly does have to bounce back from a poor run at the Curragh last time when she was beaten at very short odds but I can forgive her for this and will be supporting her once again.  The Middle Park Stakes is for the boys over 6F at 3.00pm.  Wise Approach is favourite for the Godolphin team and William Buick and I think he will win this contest.

There is plenty of Premier League football matches today and Brentford at home to Manchester United is the early kick-off match at 12.30pm.  Nottingham Forrest play Sunderland in the tea-time match at 5.30pm while this evening Spurs are at home to Wolves at 8pm.

This afternoon, we also have the women’s rugby World Cup final between Canada and England at 4pm.  Both teams have looked very good in getting to this stage and it promises to be a great game but I hope England will of course come out on top!  They play at Twickenham in front of a sell-out crowd and so there will be a great atmosphere.  The third place play-off match takes place a little earlier in the day at 12.30pm, New Zealand play France.

We also of course have day two of the Ryder Cup action and I will be trying to keep up-to-date with it all from Ireland and I am heading over with David and Leanne and a few others for a 40th birthday celebration.  Myles Doyle used to work at Pond House and has kept in touch with us all since returning home and regularly comes over for racing at Cheltenham and other places and visits the yard.  It is lovely to be able to go over, see where he lives, and enjoy a sociable weekend!

Mary has four daughters, and each of her daughters has a brother.  How many children does Mary have?

Yesterday’s Answer: Seven (I am an odd number.  Take away a letter and I become even.  What number am I?)

Happy Saturday!
