Today there is a jumps meeting at Plumpton and two flat cards at Southwell and Hamilton. In Ireland we have the first day of the Listowel Festival and this is always a great week of flat and jumps action. The stable does not have any runners. The going at Plumpton is still good to firm, highlighting the need for more rain at racecourses where they have not raced during the summer and been watering. They still have plenty of runners however so come interesting racing to watch.
It is competitive jumps action all the way at Listowel today with plenty of competitive races and the first race is off at 2.28pm.
Staying in Ireland, racing will take place there on Good Friday next year for the first time. Horse Racing Ireland have just published their 2026 fixture list, which includes a meeting at the Curragh on 3rd April. There will however, have to be a change in legislation in the interim to allow bookmakers to operate on the day. Racing in Britain started to race on Good Friday back in 2014 but in Ireland they have kept with tradition until now. In 2018 in Ireland, pubs were permitted to sell alcohol for the first time since 1927 when the government lifted the ban and I would have thought the HRI would be confident they will change to gambling rules otherwise they would not have scheduled the meeting.
There are three Premier League matches today, Bournemouth are at home to Newcastle at 2pm while Sunderland play Aston Villa at the same time. The big game of the day comes at 4.30pm with Arsenal against Manchester City.
The England women’s rugby team are in semi-final action this afternoon against France at 3.30pm. Fingers crossed they can win again in Bristol and reach the final.
It belongs to you, but other people use it more than you do. What is it?
Yesterday’s answer: A secret (If you’ve got me you want to share me; if you share me, you haven’t kept me. What am I?)
Have a good day!
