Best Night Winner Newton Abbot
Best Night made it the best day for us all yesterday! She won the mare’s novices hurdle at Newton abbot under Jack Tudor. I hope you all listened to my each way advice! She was making her hurdling debut in the David Pipe Racing Club colours having shown some fair flat form in France. She went off at big odds in a competitive looking race but she did it very nicely in the end.
She was very straightforward throughout the race, travelled nicely and jumped well. Jack Tudor asked her for her effort approaching the second last and she galloped all the way to the line with her best jump at the last hurdle with her ears pricked. It was a very pleasing performance all round and her willing attitude will stand her in good stead going forwards. Saccary ran well also to be fourth and should come on a little bit for the run.
We have one runner today, on the flat at Newmarket. Bashful Boy runs in the 3.55pm Cesarewitch Trial over 2m2f and Jack Dace claiming five pounds rides. We are one of the outsiders of the field again in a competitive race but I think he has a good each way chance. He has run well in a couple of big races this summer without winning and today could be a similar scenario. He carries no weight, loves the track and will like the ground. There are some good horses in opposition but we are now running off a good mark and I hope he can put up a bold show.
There is plenty of racing action today, nothing over jumps, but five flat cards. Along with Newmarket, we have action from Ayr, Newbury, Chester and Wolverhampton. In Ireland, they have a flat card at Gowran Park and jumps racing at Navan.
There is Group race action at Newbury this afternoon and the Mill Reef Stakes at 3.15pm is the feature over 6F. Words of Truth is favourite for the Godolphin team but the fascinating runner in the second favourite, Into the Sky for trainer Jim Boyle who was an impressive winner on debut at the track last month. They had lots of offers from big owners to buy the horse outright after this performance, but Doreen Tabor is now a joint owner and he was supplemented for this race. This horse really could be anything and it will be an interesting watch.
There is plenty of Premier League football action today and the Merseyside Derby is the first game of the day at 12.30pm Everton travel to Anfield to play Liverpool. Manchester United are at home to Chelsea at 5.30pm and the late evening game is Fulham against Brentford at 8pm.
We have reached the semi-finals of the women’s rugby World Cup and last night Canada beat New Zealand to be the first team into the final. England play France in Bristol today at 3.30pm in the second semi-final. Come on England!
Great Britain won their second medal in the World Athletics championships in Tokyo yesterday and it was another silver, this time for women’s 200m runner Amy Hunt.
If you’ve got me you want to share me; if you share me, you haven’t kept me. What am I?
Yesterday’s answer: A Piano (What has many keys bur can't open a single lock?)
Have a great Saturday!
