On Saturday, we enjoyed welcoming some of our owners to Pond House before heading to the local pub for lunch and next weekend we are doing the same. They got to look around the yard, we swam and jumped a horse and then paraded a few before heading for food. We were lucky with the weather once again after quite a wet week it was dry and sunny while everyone was here. Fingers crossed we can make in three in a row next Saturday!
The good racing action continues today with the second day of Irish Champions weekend at the Curragh which includes four Group 1 races and a Group 2 on the eight race card. Action gets underway at 1.30pm with the Irish St Leger the last of the Group 1’s on the card at 4.25pm. Joseph O’Brien has the favourite in Al Riffa and Illinois for Ballydoyle is the second favourite. Ralph Beckett sends Amiloc over to contest this race and he is third in the betting at 11/4 and I would like to think he has a good chance.
There are plenty of runners on Doncaster’s card as well, the final day of the St Leger meeting, while there is also flat action at Bath and Musselburgh. There is no jumps racing and the stable does not have any runners.
Today there are just the two Premier League football matches with Burnley at home to Liverpool at 2pm and it is the Manchester Derby at 4.30pm. United are away to City and it promises to be a good match.
After England put on a stunning batting display in the second Twenty 20 match to win on Friday evening, we have the third match today between England and South Africa at Trent Bridge starting at 2.30pm.
In the women’s rugby World Cup we have the two remaining quarterfinal games today, France play Ireland at 2pm and England face Scotland at 4pm. Sophie Pipe is off to watch England in Bristol later and I know she is very much looking forward to it.
To complete another great sporting day we also have the final day of the BMW golf championships from Wentworth. My phone maybe turned off this afternoon!
I have branches but no fruit, trunk or leaves. What am I?
Yesterday’s answer – a bottle!
Have a lovely Sunday.
