Royal Ascot Begins
Royal Ascot gets underway today and what a week of racing we have to look forwards to. The first race is the Queen Anne Stakes due off at 2.30pm and it is a mouth watering race over a mile to start the meeting. Rosallion is favourite for the Richard Hannon team with Sean Levey on board. The colt is 2 from 2 at Ascot and won at the meeting last year so I think he will take all the beating, especially with a significant non-runner Sardinian Warrior.
The Coventry Stakes is off next at 3.05pm and it looks a tough betting heat with 21 runners going to post for the 6F dash. It doesn't look any easier to find the winner of the King Charles Stakes at 3.40pm with another open looking betting race. Field of Gold is the favourite in the St James Palace Stakes at 4.20pm and he is my idea of the winner. He is unlucky not to have been unbeaten this season, finishing second in the 2,000 Guineas before winning the Irish equivalent but it is a tough race and one I am looking forward to watching. I think their will be a Royal winner of the Ascot Stakes at 5pm, with Reaching High carrying the Kings colours for Willie Mullins and Ryan Moore looking to have a very good chance. The final two races on the card a fiercely competitive and will round off a fabulous day of action. David, MCP and Mrs Pipe are all at Ascot today and will enjoy a great day out.
There are three other flat meetings today at Thirsk, Southwell and Doncaster while we also have jumping at Stratford. The stable does not have any runners.
As expected, there was plenty of high class action at the Goffs London Sale last night. Top lot was Ghostwriter who will now carry the colours of Amo Racing after he was bought by Kia Joorabchian for £2 million. He is likely o run in the Hardwicke Stakes at the Royal meeting on Saturday.
Chelsea beat Los Angeles 2-0 last night in the FIFA Club World Cup but there seems little appetite for the competition from fans around the World with plenty of seats in the stadiums empty. If you prefer cricket, there is Vitality Blast action this evening between the Hampshire Hawks and Surrey. This game starts at 7pm with a women's match before.
