Cheltenham's second day of their April meeting takes place today with Ffos Las continuing their evening action tonight also. The flat action continues at Newmarket and Ripon stages their first meeting of the year with an afternoon card. In Ireland, they are racing over jumps at Clonmel, which is an all-hurdle and a bumper card because of the recent dry weather.
We head to Ffos Las tonight with just the one runner, Eton Mes who runs in the 7:45pm Bumper over 1mile 7f with Jack Tudor riding. He makes his stable debut for Pond House today and he has had one start previously where he ran a little green to finish third. He has settled in well at Pond House and it will be interesting to see how he gets on today.
American Sniper was made a non-runner yesterday at Cheltenham. At Ffos Las, River Run Free didn't really get into a rhythm at any point and Jack Tudor felt the ground was not soft enough for him while Shot Boii ran well enough to be fourth. He looked to be dropping out of things at one point but rallied well for his jockey's urgings and was doing his best work late on. He would have snatched third place in another stride.
It is day two at Cheltenham for their April meeting and today is all about the girls! The fillies and mares are given the limelight today, with all seven races confined to them only.
The Irish Grand National takes place on Monday and there has been a significant shake up with the field as 14 of the top 20 in the weights came out at confirmations stage. The race initially attracted 78 entries but many of those were competitors of the British National this year so will not line up to take their place.
Did you hear about the claustrophobic astronaut?
He just wanted a bit more space!
