The jumps action comes from Hexham and Taunton today with the all-weather action coming from Wolverhampton this evening. There is no racing in Ireland today and we have no runners for the stable.
Patrick Mullins continues his quest to ride a winner at every British jumps track and he takes the ride aboard Road To Home for his father Willie, in the maiden hurdle on his visit to Hexham.
Over the weekend, it was announced also that Gavin Sheehan would be taking the ride on Hewick in this year’s Grand National at Aintree for Irish trainer Shark Hanlon. Gavin has already experienced victory with the partnership as he rode Hewick to victory in the King George in 2023, when interviewed over the weekend; Shark mentioned he thought that it would be an advantage to have a British rider, who knows the British tracks well.
News also came to light yesterday about the retirement of top staying chaser, Galvin at the age of 11. He had won 13 of his 32 career starts and won around £449,814 in prize money. Galvin finished fourth in last season’s Grand National and ran at the Cheltenham Festival this year for the sixth time in the Cross Country Chase but was pulled up approaching the last. The plan for him now is to be happily retired with owner, Ronnie Bartlett.
There have been some changes to races which are now left with one runner also known as a "walkover." Usually the remaining runner would have to canter from the last hurdle/fence and pass the winning line to collect the prize money, as of now that will no longer be required and the remaining runner will just be declared the winner without having to set foot on the course.
I was looking into trying an all almond diet, but then I thought to myself that's just nuts!
Have a great Tuesday!
