It is a quiet day at Pond House as there are no runners for the stable today, but yesterday we had 3 runners at Sandown. Sizing Pottsie did not run too badly, he seemed to be a little outpaced early on but kept going up the hill to finish fourth, it might be an idea of going up in trip now. Man Again jumped well early on, but seemed to lose his confidence as the race went on and he pulled up, but he goes much better than he showed yesterday at home, so I’m sure we will see a different horse next time round. Placenet was our last runner of the day and he travelled and jumped well, he looked to have every chance at the pond fence but didn't quite stay up the hill as well as the others, but we are still learning about him, so there will be more to come hopefully.
Today there are 2 jumps fixtures going ahead in Britain with Ffos Las being abandoned earlier in the week, which are Fakenham and Kelso. While there is A/W action at Wolverhampton and in Ireland, there is A/W action at Dundalk.
Big news came in yesterday about the retirement of jump jockey Jamie Moore, due to medical advice following injuries from his fall at Lingfield last November. Early in Jamie’s career, he started out at Pond House, and he had three successful seasons as an amateur and then became champion conditional in 2004. Jamie had a fantastic career over 22 years and he rode a magnificent 968 winners, including seven of them being Grade 1 winners! Some of his memorable wins for Pond House was his first graded winner, winning the Elite Hurdle on Well Chief in 2003 and landing his first Grade 1 in the Ascot Chase on It Takes Time in 2005! He enjoyed further Grade 1 victories further on in his career on popular partner Sire De Grugy when winning the Champion Chase in 2014 and two Tingle Creeks. Jamie had more than his fair share of falls and injuries; I read that he missed the equivalent to four years race riding! It can’t be easy being advised by someone else not to come back and do the job you enjoy the most, but Jamie can certainly be very proud of what he has achieved and we were very lucky to be a small part of it and all of us at Pond House wish him all the best in the future!
Last night in the Football, there was plenty of Europa League knock out round playoff matches, but there was no British involvement and tonight there is one Championship game which is West Bromwich Albion Vs. Southampton who kick off at 8:00pm.
