Neon Moon runs today at Taunton!
Today we have just have the one runner at our most local track Taunton, Neon Moon. He runs in the 4.20pm Handicap Chase over 2m7f and Jack Tudor rides. He won well on seasonal reappearance at Ludlow, but has been a bit below that level of form since. He was fifth at Newbury last time, when quite a lot of rain on the day turned the ground soft and he did not enjoy conditions. He will enjoy the better conditions today and ran well over course and distance last season. This race is a slightly lower grade than he has been running in and the handicapper has given him a bit of help so hopefully he can put up a bold show. He carries top weight and is about 5/1 in the betting.
As well as jumping action at Taunton today there is also jump action at Market Rasen and on the all-weather they race at Wolverhampton this evening.
Last night at Southwell, Pub Crawl came out the stalls well, but the front two did set a fairly strong pace and may have paid for it later on.
Yesterday saw the dispersal sale of Andy and Gemma Brown’s horses in Ireland. 29 horses went for auction and as expected sale topper Caldwell Potter did just that in emphatic fashion being sold for 740,000 Euros and he joins the Paul Nicholls team. There were some quality horses throughout and they did make eye-watering figures. Fil D’or was second top lot at 620,000 Euros, followed by Pied Piper at 570,000 Euros, Staffordshire Knot at 510,000 Euros and Mighty Bandit at 420,000 Euros. There were several that made over 300,000 Euros and lots were at least six figures. While a lot are heading off to new homes, Gordon Elliott did buy some of them back.
Last night in the football, Manchester City beat Brentford 3-1 meaning Manchester City have moved menacingly into second place in the Premier League, two points behind leaders Liverpool. Tonight there are three fourth round FA Cup replay matches being played and they all kick off at 7.45pm. Coventry are at home to Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth Argyle host Leeds United and Southampton play Watford.
India beat England in the second cricket test to level the series 1-1. England were chasing a total of 399 to win but were bowled out for 292 to lose by 106 runs in an anti-climactic fourth day.
What do you call the knight who loves to scare people?
