Kingofthewest runs today!
It is a quieter day for the stable today with just the one runner at Chesptow, Kingofthewest. He runs in the 3.45pm handicap chase over 2m3f and Harry Coben rides. Jack Tudor is unfortunately banned today so we have enlisted the services of Mr Cobden who is still trying to bridge the gap of winners between himself and Sean Bowen. Hopefully we can help him out with a winner but it has been a little while since our eight year old has won but he has been in good form in three starts over fences this term, finishing third at Taunton and fourth twice at Wincanton. He is a good jumper and at about 6/1 third best in the betting, hopefully he can run a big race.
Yesterday our runners experienced all the ups and downs which often is the case in horse racing! Vision De Maine nearly got rid of Jack Tudor at the first hurdle but then didn’t run too badly, while he pulled up Tough Approach before the second last hurdle as he thought he had lost his action. Thankfully he seems okay this morning but we will get him fully checked over.
Rian Corcoran was having his first ride in a hurdle race yesterday and I thought he gave Only Fools a lovely ride to finish a close third. They had to bypass the second last hurdle which was damaged on the first circuit which I think didn’t help our chances but it was still a good run and she was beaten less than a length. Up five pounds for her win at Ludlow she looks capable of winning again off her mark. There was also improvement from Moodofthemoment to be third in his race, having failed to complete in his last three starts this was a step in the right direction. The blinkers helped him concentrate, whereas getting hampered four out didn’t help but he galloped all the way to the line and would have grabbed second in another stride. As long as he can build on this going forwards I am sure he can be winning over fences soon. Royal Mer travelled well again in his race but didn’t find a lot off the bridle, perhaps the extra two furlongs don’t suit him or perhaps this race came a little quick after his run at the track last time but I don’t think we saw the best of him yesterday and I’m sure he can bounce back. King Turgeon didn’t run too badly in a very competitive race, he jumped well at the head of affairs but they quickened past him turning for home although he did keep galloping all the way to the line and probably closed on those in front again to finish sixth. The ground may not have been soft enough for him and with some help from the handicapper he can be back to winning ways. Sizing Pottsie ran better than at Wincanton, racing enthusiastically and jumping well before weakening to finish fourth from the last. I think he wold prefer the ground softer and I’m sure we’ll be looking introducing some headgear at some point. Jurancon ran a super race to be second in the bumper at Newbury, it is never easy to win a bumper carrying a penalty but he was doing all his best work at the finishing. He is an exciting youngster with a great attitude.
The card at Chepstow today is an extra meeting put on after last week’s abandonments. They also race over jumps up at Catterick and there are two meetings on the all-weather at Lingfield and Kempton. In Ireland they have a jumps card at Fairyhouse.
Last night in the football saw the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Middlesbrough. Chelsea were not for losing and they dominated the field with a 6-1 result. Tonight we have the second semi-final of the EFL Cup, the second leg between Fulham and Liverpool which kicks off at 8.00pm. Liverpool have a 2-1 lead from the first leg but it won’t be easy for the visitors at Craven Cottage and it should be a good match.
My husband texted me, “Your great” and I replied, “No you’re great”.
He’s been really happy and smiling at me all weekend.
I just corrected his grammar, no need to be so excited!
Have a good day!
