Shot Boii runs today at Hereford!
Today we have one runner at the only jumps meeting of the day at Hereford, Shot Boii. He runs in the 2.58pm handicap chase over three miles and Jack Tudor rides. Our seven year old is having his third start over fences, having run well at Lingfield on chasing debut before and not quite running up to expectations at that track last time out. The handicapper has given him some help and he sports a first time visor over the larger obstacles to help him concentrate a little more. He is a four time hurdle winner who is still just above his highest hurdle winning mark but the track and ground should suit. It looks a tight little race judged on the betting and we are about fifth best 7/1 in the market.
There are two all-weather meetings today at Lingfield and Newcastle while it is another blank day on the racing front in Ireland. The weather is still playing it’s part in the jumps fixtures list with the scheduled meeting at Chepstow on Sunday already having been called off due to waterlogging. Since their Welsh National meeting on the 27th December they have had 140mm of rain with a third of that amount coming in one day, on Tuesday of this week. They hope to be fine to race again for their next meeting on 16th January. Several of the upcoming tracks have waterlogged areas according to their going descriptions but I believe that after today the weather forecast is set to turn a little drier so fingers crossed things should start to improve everywhere.
Last night Ocean Heights ran at Kempton and ran another solid race finishing 3rd, from a wide draw he got to the front and kept on well for pressure, just being over taken inside the final furlong. Making the running is probably not ideal, and he's probably suited by a little further in distance, but it was still a good run.
Last night it was a cracking final in the World Darts Championship and Luke Littler was aiming to become darts' youngest ever world champion after a remarkable run to the final but Luke Humphries, the pre event favourite who became world number one on Tuesday, saw off his challenge to claim the £500,000 first prize. Littler's progress on his World Championship debut has captured the public's imagination over the past three weeks and he produced another exceptional, composed performance in the final. Being only 16 and reaching the final, he should be proud of himself.
There is FA Cup third round football action this evening as Crystal Palace are at home to Everton, 8pm kick off. This is the first match of the third round with plenty more matches coming up in the competition in the coming days.
