Ocean Heights after winning last night!
It was great to get a nice and deserved win for Ocean Heights at Kempton last night. Our six year old had run well in his first two handicap starts to be third and second when losing his position a mid-race and staying on strongly at the finish. This time he held a handy position throughout, pulled out and got a nice run from turning in and galloped on strongly. A rival did get close to challenge inside the final furlong but I think our boy was idling a little and he pulled out a bit more under a good ride from Aiden Brookes. I imagine we will see what the handicapper does next week and then look for a similar race back at the track again next time.
Today we have the one runner at Exeter, Sidi Ismael. He runs in the 2.55pm handicap chase over three miles and Jack Tudor rides. He carries top weight in this and is the outsider of the field but I don’t think he should be. He has dropped a couple of pounds the handicap and he has finished a close second off this mark last season and today’s race is a drop in class compared to his last two starts. He ran in the Becher chase at Aintree last time but parted company with Kevin Brogan early in the race at the chair. He came home absolutely fine after the race and is in good form at home. He will appreciate the course and soft going and hopefully he can run well.
Exeter is the only jumps meeting today after Ffos Las was abandoned yesterday due to waterlogging. There are two meetings on the all-weather today at Chelmsford and Southwell while there is no action in Ireland.
Yesterday at Newbury, Itseemslike it unfortunately did not run his race for some reason. While I didn’t necessarily expect him to win I thought he would be place so it was disappointing for him to weaken from the second last. He seems fine this morning which is the main thing and we know he is much better than this so I am sure he can bounce back next time.
Last night in the football the last quarter final match of the EFL Cup took place and West Ham were home to Liverpool and after full time Liverpool brought out the win with a 5-1 result.
Tonight there is one Premiership match, Crystal Palace are at home to Brighton at 8pm.
