Mr Tambourine Man
had his own opinion
on the cold!
It was great but I was surprised that racing went ahead at both Newbury and Bangor over jumps yesterday! It was the coldest morning so far at Pond House yesterday and my car read -6c when I came to work. There were a few frozen water drinkers so buckets were deployed and Mike and Bob were on the gallops tractors from early in the morning to ensure the normal work routine took place so it was a good effort from the team of staff to get everything done yesterday morning.
Hopefully Leicester beats the freeze today and we have one runner, Sizing Pottsie. He runs in the 2.25pm handicap hurdle over 2 miles and Gearoid Harney rides claiming a valuable seven pounds. Gearoid was on board last time at Uttoxeter where he ran well and finished a close second. I think that will have given him a good confidence boost after finding things tough at the end of last season and hopefully he can go one place better this afternoon. He will love any rain then get and the track will suit. At the time of writing there were seven runners in the race but I expect that to cut up, with four of the field having ran at Bangor yesterday. They were declared with all the doubt about racing being on. There is an 8am inspection at Leicester so fingers crossed racing is on and we can run well.
Hopefully there may also be jumps race action at Carlisle today and in Ireland at Fairyhouse where they have three Grade 1’s on the card. There is also a jumpers bumpers card at Southwell this afternoon on the all-weather so there will definitely be some action to watch of some sort!
There are five Premier League matches today with four of them kicking off at 2pm and include Chelsea at home to Brighton and Liverpool at home to Fulham. The 4.30pm kick off is probably the highlight of the day with Spurs visiting Manchester City. Spurs haven’t been in the best form of late with lots of injuries but I am sure they can give City something to think about.
There is due to be point to pointing at Chaddesley Corbett in Worcestershire today. They could have races yesterday with no frost in the ground so it sounds like racing should go ahead. They have plenty of entries and it should be good racing. Martin McIntyre has a few rides and looks for his second winner of the season so I will let you know if he has a winner tomorrow!
