There are race meetings today at Brighton, Chelmsford, Carlisle (where there is an inspection at 9am) and at Wincanton where we have one runner, Ben Lilly, pictured here on a very happy day after winning at Newton Abbot in September.

Ben Lilly runs in the 4.20pm, 3 mile Novices Handicap Hurdle, with Gearoid Harney on board for the David Pipe Racing Club. The going at Wincanton is currently on the slower side of good on the Hurdle course but they are due to have heavy showers throughout the day so it is likely to change again. His win over hurdles at Newton Abbot was on heavy ground so the going isn't a worry today. Top Cloud who was favourite for this race has been withdrawn. We are due to get plenty more wet weather across the country over the next coming days so it really is a case of keeping an eye on fixtures and going conditions as to how many horses are declared so keep checking here for daily updates.

I left a bottle of whiskey outside last night and it got rained on. It's not ruined but my spirits are dampened.
