Well, I thought that Richard Hughes would have a good day at Epsom yesterday afternoon and so it proved as he promptly won the first three races for guv'nor Richard Hughes before adding the finale for Hughie Morrison to make it a fantastic four-timer on the day. Another to have a good day yesterday was champion Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien who completed a hat-trick at the Curragh. His two year old Nephrite looked impressive when winning the first on heavy ground over six furlongs - the winning margin was four lengths but she could easily have won by much further and looks more than capable of stepping up in trip. Young Joseph O'Brien put up 1lb overweight at 9-1 - I wonder how much longer it will be before a jumping career beckons?

Ah, the good old days! I see that bookmaker David Porter is talking about backing MCP's Fontanesi to win the County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival at 33/1. He went straight out and bought a £74,000 Mercedes! I did like his tip for anyone that is looking to become a successful gambler "pack it in straight away"! Good advice from a chap driving around in a flash Merc!

Talking of successful punting, I was pleased to get my three football bets up over the weekend. I did watch the Stoke versus Manchester United game and I must say how impressed I was by Stoke. Any team that visits Stoke will have a hard game - they put the ball about a bit and I don't think I will be betting against them at home again in a hurry.

It was a good sporting weekend and I don't think that I have ever been more excited about women's sport (apart from maybe the women's beach volleyball championships!) than I was watching the Solheim Cup in Ireland. The European team were magnificent - it was real nail-biting stuff right down to the last couple of matches.
One sport that wasn't particularly nail-biting was of course the Formula One Grand Prix where "wunderkid" Sebastian Vettel once again embarrassed his rivals. Only Jenson Button can wrestle the title away from the young German now with five races left (and the only way he can do that is by winning every race and hoping that Vettel does not score a single point!).
