It is a gloomy foggy morning here at Pond House but spirits are high after Myristica defied top weight to win her fourth hurdle race of the season, conceding 24lbs to her younger rival, Hourless.
Jack Tudor gave Myristica a great ride, letting Hourless get on with it on the extended flat run in, as the two hurdles up the home straight were omitted due to the low sun. Myristica got there just in time but she seemed to have a bit in hand and this was a well deserved success. Well done to her owner Professor Caroline Tisdall, and all the team especially to Leanne who rides her out everyday and Mandy Hutchings who looks after her.
We haven't got any runners today or tomorrow but we have plenty of entries from Thursday onwards. There are flat meetings today at Leicester, Brighton and Southwell and jump meetings at Huntingdon and Punchestown. It is the time of year when the flat horses in training sales are just around the corner, so we are keeping an eye on those who have entries prior to the sales. There are plenty of nice three year olds heading to the tattersalls sales towards the end of the month.
Tattersalls Book two yearling sales got off to a good start yesterday when a Dubawi filly sold for 725,000gns, making her the sixth most expensive lot ever to be sold at Book two. The lot consigned by Lodge Park Stud is out of a Galileo mare, Park Bloom. The yearling was due to sell in last weeks Book One, but as we all know with horses things don't always go to plan, and this filly had a bit of an issue travelling over in the horsebox, so ended up having to turn back home to have some veterinary treatment after cutting her head in the horsebox. She recovered fine and managed to get a lot in Book Two, so headed back over without any dramas, until the fall of the hammer. But this time it was a good drama!
I tried to grab the fog but I mist ! Stay safe if your out and about in the fog.
