David has one runner at Worcester today, Vertige Dore in the 3.20pm Beginners Chase. Several of you will remember that Vertige Dore did win a chase at the track not long ago but was disqualified and the placings reversed after causing interference to the runner up. Effectively he is a winner without a penalty and he was travelling well behind a useful sort at Hereford last time out when he fell. He has done some jumping practice since and we are hoping he does not show his previous quirks and runs well with Timmy Murphy in the saddle once again.
It was sad to hear of the news that Sir Henry Cecil's first Derby winner Slip Anchor has died at the age of 29. Winning jockey Steve Cauthen said Sir Henry had Slip Anchor spot on for the Derby and he was the best he ever was that day. He was not as good at stud but he did breed an Oaks and a St Leger winner in User Friendly.
I thought that Eddie Ahern had a bad neck while I was watching the telly yesterday! He took such a long look behind him on his horse Times Up, it won with so much in hand. If he had got beaten on it I think his time would have been up! It looked like the step up in trip for that horse has brought about more improvement.
For those of you interesting in betting, I see that the Tote Jackpot with reach £3 million today at Newmarket. I see a professional punter says that the jackpot will be won today and he said that his syndicate could be laying out as much as £40,000 to try and in it. It will be interesting to see what happens.
One final thought.....Just think you have got more chance of being hit by a bit of space ship falling out of the sky today than Tom Scu buying a round of drinks!! Have a good day.
