Last Quarter Runs at Uttoxeter Today

Today we have two runners at Uttoxeter, Make Me A Believer and Last Quarter.  Make Me A Believer runs in the 3.55pm novices handicap chase over 2m4f with Fergus Gillard on board.  Our eight year old has some very good hurdle form to his name but then sustained a tendon injury which kept him off the track for a while and he has gone chasing since his return.  He has actually ran well in both of his starts but unfortunately after his comeback in December he then suffered another little set back which meant he didn’t run again until the beginning of March and therefore lost any benefit from that initial start.

He is quite fragile at home and does a lot of swimming and so it is just great he came out of the last race at Sandown okay and we are able to run him again relatively quickly.  The engine is still there and if he builds on last time he might not be far away.  There are only five runners but it is a competitive little race and we are about 13/2 in the betting.  The ground will be testing but we won’t mind that and fingers crossed he can run well.

Last Quarter will also relish the testing going when he runs in the 4.30pm handicap chase over three miles.  He ran really well at Ffos Las with Jack Tudor on board for the first time last time, only losing out in a photo finish.  While his form can be a bit in and out I think the underfoot conditions are the key point and I think he enjoyed his last run and if putting in the same performance he should be involved in the finish.  The handicapper put him up three pounds for finishing second last time which is fair enough and he just heads favouritism for today’s race.

Alongside Uttoxeter they also race over jumps at Stratford while we have the first British flat meeting of the year on the grass at Doncaster.  There are two all-weather fixtures at Kempton and Chelmsford and in Ireland there is flat action at Bellewstown.  The going will be very testing at Doncaster and it will be a big test for the two years olds in the Brocklesbury over 5 furlongs.  The Lincoln is the feature race of the day at 3.35pm and 22 runners go to post in a very open looking contest. I'm afraid I haven't even had a look at the flat card so won't even pretend to know anything about the flat horses today!

Yesterday, Sizing Pottsie was very disappointing at Wetherby, things looked good up until the third last hurdle but then he made one bad mistake and his race was all over.  It is back to the drawing board with him.

Premier League football action returns this weekend for the first time since the International break and there are seven matches being played today.  The early kick off match is Manchester City against Liverpool at 12.30pm and it looks sure to be a good contest with Liverpool back in better form.  Chelsea host Aston Villa for the 5.30pm kick off.

I found out by boyfriend is really a ghost.  I had my suspicions the moment he walked through the door!  Have a good Saturday!
