The stable enjoyed a good winner at Market Rasen on Saturday when recent French acquisition Taratata Sivola made a winning debut for the yard in the 2m4f novices' chase, at the same time giving stable jockey a welcome winning return from injury.  He jumped well and battled on bravely to win 1 3/4 lengths - Tom Scu said that he was inclined to go a little bit left, and to me he looked as though the trip was plenty short enough for him, nevertheless I think that he could be well up to following-up and he will not mind softer ground either.

I see that there are more proposals to further modify the Grand National fences.  If they keep going at this rate, they will turn it into a 4 1/2 mile flat race!  Personally, I think that one of the things that makes it such a showcase for British racing across the world is the unique challenge that it provides.  If you take away that challenge, you will eventually finish up with just a run of the mill race that will not capture the imagination of the casual spectator - it is these once a year viewers that we need to coax onto the racecourse and the Grand National is the best advertisement for our sport.  A P McCoy and John Francome (who between them have won 22 championsips!), both say don't change it and I would much sooner listen to them - I think that Francome is right when he says that he would like to see more horses pulled up when they are tired...but that responsibility lies with the jockeys.

Manchester United won at West Brom yesterday, but I have to say that it was a far from convincing performance.  I know that David de Gea is still very young, but he looked decidedly dodgy to me - when you pay that sort of money for a keeper, you would expect to get the finished article.  He has been to blame for three conceded goals now and I just wonder what he is going to be like against Stoke or Bolton who like to challenge with high balls in the box...I will probably now receive an e-mail from United's number one fan Tony Lomas correcting me!

It was the second and final owners' day at the yard yesterday and I was pleased to see that they enjoyed better weather than the previous week.  There was an excellent turnout too with around 150 friends present for an enjoyable afternoon.
