Al Roc runs at Uttoxeter today

We have our first runners of the week this evening at Uttoxeter.  We have three runners on the card and the first of these is Morgenstern in the 6.05pm novices handicap chase over three miles.  This is our five year olds first try at the trip but he shapes as though this could be ideal and in fact bring about more improvement.  He won over 2m5f last week at Newton Abbot and was doing all his best work at the end of the race.  He was never really going early on and in all honesty he looked the least likely winner in the field with a circuit to go but under a never say die ride from Philip Armson they powered away to win.  Indeed, our jockey is in fine form and rode another double yesterday for Alex Dunn at Fontwell.  He has now ridden 11 winners already this season from 47 rides at a strike rate of 23%.  He is currently leading conditional jockey and lets hope he can continue his good run of form this evening.

Our second runner of the night is Al Roc in the 6.35pm handicap chase over 2m4f.  Al Roc has already won two races this season at Newton Abbot and Fakenham and although he was not at his best last time out at the track, that was in a much more competitive race against stronger opposition than he will face this evening.  With a couple of non-runners in the race this leaves a field of five and I see the Racing Post have him second in the betting at 11/4.  Hopefully he should not be too far away.

Our final runner on the card is Tango Arumba who runs in the bumper at 8.35pm with Tom Scu on board.  A recent purchase from Cheltenham sales in April she has settled into life at Pond House well and goes nicely at home.  She has won her only start to date, an Irish point to point at Tattersalls Farm where she made all the running and quickened clear from the last fence to score well.  Our five year old runs for owner Jane Gerard-Pearse and hopefully she can get off to a winning start in her new colours before being turned away for a summer holiday.

Uttoxeter is the only jumping action today but there are four meetings on the flat at Newbury, Yarmouth, Nottingham and Haydock.  In Ireland they have a meeting on the flat at Leopardstown.

Day 2 of the Goffs Ireland stores sale continued yesterday and having a look through the results trade still looked exceptional with nearly all lots being sold at some very good prices.  While there seems to be a cost of living crisis across the country there still seems to be plenty on money available for horses which is good for the industry.

I like to watch cricket and particularly like watching Somerset play and have been to watch them a few times recently in the Vitality Blast.  Indeed, David, Jack, Sophie and I went to to watch them beat Glamorgan last week.  There is always such a good atmosphere at the ground, especially when they win!  They play tonight away to Gloucester and then are at home to Kent tomorrow evening.  They are doing well in this competition so fingers crossed they can keep up their good run and qualify for Finals day.  Have a good day everyone.
