There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat fixtures from Leicester and Hamilton, an all-weather card from Wolverhampton and a jumps meeting from Warwick.  David has one runner today as Lady Reset contests the 2m novices' handicap hurdle at Warwick at 2.25pm.  She has been in tremendous form this summer, winning three times on the level as well as winning on her last start over hurdles at Stratford in July, when displaying a really determined attitude.  She will enjoy the prevailing conditions and is only 1lb higher than when last scoring so has every chance on that basis.  This is more competitive but she looks sure to be thereabouts again with Tom Scudamore in the saddle.

David will have been pleased to see Chelsea move to joint top of the Premiership following their comfortable 3-0 win over local rivals Spurs yesterday.  They share the top spot with Liverpool who continue to look good and Manchester United, who were a little fortunate to get the better of West Ham with a late winner.

Talking of football, we were greatly saddened to hear of the passing of Jimmy Greaves at the weekend at the age of 81.  He was a part of the World Cup winning squad of 1966 and scored a remarkable 266 goals for Spurs during his career.  They could certainly have done with a bit of his magic yesterday.  It was only a few years ago that Martin and Chester attended a birthday dinner for Jimmy as guests of owner Fergus Wilson.

Somerset did well to reach the finals of the T20 Vitality Blast cricket at Edgbaston at the weekend.  They beat Hampshire in the semi-finals but sadly they never really looked like getting the better of Kent in the final, falling 25 runs short of the required total.

My miserable start to the American Football season continued last night as the Minnesota Vikings added another instalment of 'How to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory'.  They played much better than in week one but still lost 34-33 to a decent outfit in the Arizona Cardinals.  The sickener is that they had managed to get themselves in a winning position with time expiring only for their kicker to miss the winning field goal from 37 yards, having previously made his two other kicks from 52 yards!

*****

A man and a giraffe walk into a bar.

After a few drinks, the giraffe keels over and dies.  The man begins to walk out when the bartender stops him.

"Hey, you can't leave that lyin' there!" the barman yells.

The man turns around and says, "It's not a lion, it's a giraffe."
