I can't wait until Goodwood starts on Tuesday - let's hope that the weather will be as glorious as the racing!  I love watching high class flat horses in action in all the top races, and they don't come much higher class than Frankel or Canford Cliffs who do battle in the Sussex Stakes on Wednesday.  I wonder what tactics will be used aboard Henry Cecil's star three year old and which jockey will commit for home first?  It will certainly be cat and mouse between the big two, but I would imagine that Frankel will try to run the finish out of Canford Cliffs - still, not long now!

Not quite such high profile, but certainly no less enjoyable is Newton Abbot and they have a fixture on this afternoon.  We have three runners: Vertige Dore (who makes his debut for the yard), Lucy's Perfect (who makes her chasing debut), and Moonchrome (another that is having his first start for us).  Hopefully there will be a winner or two among them!

I see that Paul Di Canio has banned players at his Swindon Town Football Club from wearing headbands.  I could see Di Canio getting upset about it - he always did have a short temper, but what a fantastic player he was!  I think it will certainly be an interesting season for Swindon supporters.

I notice that Ricky "Hitman" Hatton retired this week.  Personally I thought that Hatton was already retired?  It always amazed me just how much Ricky would blow-up between fights - he would regularly wear one of those shirts that wouldn't tuck into his trousers...a bit like Lovejoy (if you remember that TV series!).  It can't have done his body much good with such a fluctuating (and large) variance in weight.  He was a good, honest fighter - the only trouble was that he supported Manchester City!
