There is some great quality jumping action from Market Rasen this afternoon and we have runners in both of their highlight races.  David's Punchestown winner Street Entertainer carries top weight in the Listed Summer Hurdle, and while that is clearly a big ask of a four year old he is improving at a rate of knots and is reunited with winning rider A P McCoy.  Qulinton goes in the Summer Plate and his form received a boost when Sir Ian, who he beat by a short head at Worcester (the pair 28 lengths clear) subsequently came out and won easily.

One word of warning though - keep an eye on the skies because Market Rasen have been watering their track and there is plenty of rain forecast, so if you are having a bet make sure that your selection will handle a bit of cut.

I had a lovely afternoon yesterday watching golf and racing.  I would love to see Darren Clarke win the British Open - his two rounds of 68 put him in a very strong position on a tricky course.  The Irishman seems to amble around the course and never seems to get too upset, he would make a very worthy winner.  Looking at how difficult the course is, I bet there have been some pretty high scores posted by members down the years and I would also be willing to bet that quite a few of those rounds have taken several hours...they would need sandwiches just to keep going!

Did you see John Daley's trousers?  It looked as though he got dressed in the dark!  Daley seems to have lost quite a bit of weight (and also quite a bit of his ability judging by his play this week)...still, at least we can talk about his trousers.  I would just like to point out that Kurt Barnes is no relation and he looks as though he has attended the John Daley fashion school!

Talking of golf, A P McCoy has been getting a few rounds in in Portugal.  The champ has been away with a few of the other jockeys, although he did fly back to ride at Southwell on Sunday before going back to Portugal.  It just shows how much he does not like to let down the people he rides for.

Jim Crowley has done very well for himself since switching his attentions from riding over the sticks to competing on the level.  When asked why he made the switch he replied, "Let's just say that I am minus a collarbone and that didn't happen on the flat!".  These jump jockeys are a tough breed and certainly earn their money.

I have a couple of shots from the gallops earlier in the week, including of our Summer hurdle runner Street Entertainer (as mentioned earlier, he competes at Market Rasen this afternoon) who went nicely in company with Lucy's Perfect (who runs at Newton Abbot tomorrow).  Also pictured is Teshali and Vertige Dore (another to run at Newton Abbot on Sunday).
